Flags - why??

I get it if you're at a festival and need to have some kind of visible marker, but in a campsite? They make a horrible flappy noise and look naff.

Rant over.

Making an unnecessary noise is totally wrong.

Camping now. Flags are annoying. As is so many fairy lights round the tent it looks like Christmas and you can see round the whole campsite in the dark with no torch because there's an entire field of multicolour flashing lights.

Nourishinghandcream · 25/07/2025 21:07

Agree.
Both lights & flags are an annoying modern trend which is purely for the "look at me" crowd. I am on multiple FB groups for Moho & caravan owners and it seems that some people just post to show their latest gaudy park up.😖

Another awful trend is projector screens.
Instead of sitting inside your Moho or caravan to enjoy some peaceful evening viewing, set up a projector against the side of the vehicle so you can share your choice of film/TV show with ALL your neighbours.😖😖😖😖
Tossers!!!!

One of the main reasons why we almost exclusively use CAMC sites, that sort of behaviour is not tolerated.

I think there’s always a place for fairy lights in any setting 😍

I always put fairy lights on our tent to help us find it when crossing the field at night. But that's just one string of non-flashy lights. When the dc were younger I used to put small flags or whirlygigs on our tent to help them find the tent in daytime. But nothing flashy, or noisy, or large and flappy. That would be very antisocial.

profpoopsnagle · 26/07/2025 09:22

I love our flag, it's not that common so people often come over to ask what it is after having spent 30 minutes arguing with their tent people what it is. But I tend to lower it at night (once a girl guide) or when it's windy as yes it can get flappy.

I hate the flags and led poles flashing all night like a funfair! I do t mind some plain static fairy lights - we had some next to us one year that were multicoloured and left on combo setting. It was like a disco!

TheNightingalesStarling · 27/07/2025 08:20

Of all the annoying things on camp sites.. flags are the least bothersome. Of its windy enough for them to make noise, the wind will make more noise!

outdooryone · 05/08/2025 14:21

I camped on the south coast earlier this summer. One of the sites had multiple loud light displays around a couple of campervans, flags the whole nine yards - thankfully they turned them off at bedtime, but still felt like total 'memememe, loook at meeeeeee' activity.

mogtheexcellent · 05/08/2025 14:33

I have plain fairy lights with low light so not too bright. And some bunting because my DM got it for us. I use solar lights for the tent pegs so I dont trip up in the dark. Again they are not too bright. I use to locate tent during my multiple loo visits after dark.

I think the family next door to use last year with the large tv and speakers were more of a pain tbh

@RigIt

not flashing lights - some people have epilepsy set off by them
