based on the fact that it's a minute up and a couple of minutes down

quecha combi of 2 second air x 2 plus the new base tent

or would we need a proper tent (got an outwell on loan) baring in mind the kids are 7 and 4 and we'll be at a festival type thing

How waterproof is it? Can it cope with a sea of mud and sewage (bearing in mind it's a festival in a British summer?). If it's OK on those scores I'd go for it.

we looked at those in decathon today. they join ti the base tent don't they? super easy to pop up but we couldn't get it back down

Twiglett · 26/05/2008 20:39

we've had a quechua pop-up tent for about 3 years .. it's really just a knack that when you get it takes about 20 secs to put down again .. honestly

it's just the 'base tent' thing is new

Will it not be like those pop-up play tents, ie 2 seconds up and 2.5 hours wrestling down to find it never goes back in the bag?

I didn't look at feedback on the site, but that may provide an answer, and it may be worth looking at ukcampsite.co.uk for reviews as well.

How do you see the sleeping arrangements? At festivals my DH and I take it in turns to babysit or go and mingle of an evening. So whether you sleep 1 adult 1 child per tent or have both DCs in one tent, you would be left so that you either have to stay up, or have one or both DCs in a tent without you.

iheartdusty · 26/05/2008 20:42

sorry x post about getting it down.

Twiglett · 26/05/2008 20:48

well we were thinking of having 2 pop-up tents directly into 2 of the openings so it's like one large tent and then one of us in each tent with one child .. or both kids in a tent together and us in the other (I don't know)

our current tent has a room either side of the middle section and the first, and embarrassingly, only time we tried it was when DD was just 2 and we put both kids in the same room and we went in the other ... I assume that's a camping no-no

I suppose it's just something that has made me uneasy at festivals in the past. With a tent like your current one, we went 1 adult 1 child, but on the night when DH was out and I wanted to go to bed, I didn't like DS being all on his own. There is just a bit more risk of someone blundering into the wrong tent, with no marked pitches and everything being a bit haphazard.

now we have one where the 2 compartments are side by side and we make them into 1 big one.

Twiglett · 26/05/2008 20:59

no it makes sense ..

we have an outwell on offer from friends (our tent is a Halfords special) that the whole back bit can be one big room so are still considering that .. it's just the 40 mins setting up a tent you don't know well and the 40 mins taking it down compared to the 2 mins / 5 mins for quechua ..
