Campsites near Cardiff?

dh is going to a concert in Cardiff in June and we've decided to try to combine a camping trip with it. Main requirement would be (if possible) one near a train line to Cardiff.

Any ideas most welcome!

Well there's a campsite right in the middle of Cardiff...

right in the middle?

Likely to be booked up due to the concert I guess.

Yup, right in the middle. Sophia Gardens. Probably not the quietest of places though, and I think they get a lot of tourers / caravans there.

I'm sure one near Usk has been recommended on here before (try searching "Usk" on the camping threads) - much nicer up round there, and I bet there are some nice ones near Abergavenny, which has a train station.

Sorry, am not really much use

You could try the Vale Touring Park which is near the airport at Barry, about 8 miles from Cardiff, or Marconi Holiday Village is at Penarth, about 5 miles from Cardiff. We live in Barry and go to these regularly as they are about 5 mins from our house. Neither are right next to train station, but the one near the airport is about a 2min ride in the car from Barry Station (the actual one in Gavin and Stacey!!)

We have been to the campsite at Llantwit Majors, I really liked it

The Cardiff City one is about a 15 min walk from the station, the Llandow one would be a bus ride.

ohhhh I know this one, i know this one!

oh hang on I don't.

the one in cardiff is pretty shite for tents

there is a decent one in newport, a short bus ride from the train station (or you could get the same bus (no 30) the other way to cardiff, c 40 mins to cardiff centre. its at tredegar house

Fillyjonk · 02/06/2008 20:28

snao chequers my in laws really liked it, but they have a tin tent
