Wanting to camp for the first time in the Highlands/Cairngorms and found a lovely campsite by a loch. But would the midges be awful last week in May? Would a lake-free site be better? Happy to use repellants, its just whether we'd get bitten to death regardless

We visited in mid May and the midges were horrendous on the west coast. Go to the east coast to be midge free?

They're annoying but only come out for a short time in the evening and morning. Smidge works quite well.

I'll see you up there as I'll be on my way to the top coast.

Are you going to Glenmore? It's our favourite site, we went last Summer and the midges were bad. A lot of the outdoor staff wore nets.

I'm going to Glenmore on Saturday. Will find out then and report back.
