Fat Airic - how exactly do they self inflate?

OK - please excuse my dimness, am complete camping novice, but have been convinced by DH and lurking on here that it will be a good thing to do! I have just taken delivery of x 2 fat airics - so how do they self inflate - no instructions or anything?
do i just lie it out on the floor and wait - have done this and nothing happens?!
very confused am I complete dimbo?

have you unscrewed the valves?? With ours (different make you unscrew valves, wait, when inflated close valves. hth

When I recieved my thermarests I had to give a little blow into the valve to get em going. Then fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp they get on with the job themselves.

We have a couple of fat airics. When we ordered them the company said they might need some help on first inflation due to being packed down in the factory. So we unscrewed one valve on each one and puffed away till we got them up.

To be honest, we have used them a few times since and while air definitely goes in when we first unscrew the valves they still don't fully inflate and need us to finish the job. It's not too hard though - we have never needed a pump to do it - just a bit of puffing. And once they are inflated they are really comfortable .

Mind you, I did a bit of research before I bought them and no one else seemed to have suffered the same problem, so we could just be unlucky.

Are the FA's really big when rolled up? I'm having a dillema about what mats to buy.

Can't decide between Thermarests and Airics and what size! Our local camping store sells Thermarests but I've yet to see Airics in a shop. I'm looking for my husband and I.--
