Took my dd camping last year(in the rain!) when she was 2.1 - 2.4 and we'll go agin this year. She sleeps in vests and warm pj's in her ready bed with a couple of extra blankets doubled over on top, so we can add or remove balnkets as we need to. We've got her a sleeping bag for this summer though now she's bigger, and they were on sale in Millets! so she'll sleep in that on her ready bed with a blanket if she needs it.

DS has always slept in leggings and a vest with pjs and socks, ina sleeping bag with extra blankets if we're camping in colder climates. I used to put a hat on him too when he was younger, especially in april/may camping. He also has a roll mat that goes under his sleeping bag.

My two were 18 mounths and just 4 when we started camping.
They just wear vest/pj's with a junior mummy sleeping bag each on a double airbed. I put a fleece blanket over the airbed first so its cosy. If its cold then I lay a blanket over them both.
My boys tend to get quite hot when they sleep though.

*months!

ours wore vests and pjs and socks.
They went on a double airbed together inside a double sleeping bag. They snuggled up to each other and kept warm.

FluffyDavis · 14/04/2008 15:42

yes forgot they had socks on, essential!

beaniesteve · 14/04/2008 15:43

what do they sleep on, or in?

LilRedWG · 15/04/2008 16:14

We're taking DD in May (she's 23 months) and are going to take the travel cot, as we think she'll settle better in that,

Flutterbye · 15/04/2008 20:37

Last sept, my dd was about 16 months and slept happily on her "my first readybed" cause her travel cot wouldn't fit in the car! Warm pj's, etc (as above), ready bed then a fleece blanket under and ontop. Plan to do same again in a few weeks time.

At 18 months my ds would have still been in a a travel cot. Ideal as it's off the ground, and they can't fall out. Doubles as a playpen while you're putting the tent up!

If using airbeds a double is best as they're less likely to roll off. Put a blanket or fleece on top of the airbed for warmth.

Now aged 5 ds sleeps in a sleeping bag with an extra blankie tucked inside!

DD still uses travel cot with extra mattress. DS has a my first ready bed with extra quilt- he didn't want to sleep in the sleeping bag last year, but he may do this year. I agree about the cot keeping DD off the ground, and normal lilos are quite bouncy- DS kept rolling off when we tried one. DD slept in vest, sleepsuit and a 'walk in sleeper' then the sleeping bag off the pram, which is just like a sleeping bag.

when ds1 was 18 months we all slept together in sleeping bags with a blanket or two on top (he had a childrens one) on mats - we found camp beds, the ones that raise you off the ground, really cold (but then it was early May). he wore a fleecy babygro, you can get them from Mothercare.

when he was 2 1/2 he slept in My First Readybed and we had an airbed.

now he is 4 1/2 he finds the readybed uncomfortable. we now have ds2 now aged 18 months. planning our next trip end of May and going to all sleep together on mats in sleeping bags - I think travel cot would be far too cold for ds2 as not very well insulated underneath and next to us he would share our body warmth.

our best decision was getting an electric hook-up so we could take the mini fridge and a fan heater!
