What to do about car seats in Campervans?

Hiya!

We're seriously considering buying a campervan but wanted to ask for your advice regarding car seats for our kids please! One is 3 years old, and one is 4 months. Most of the Campervans we've been looking at have two seats in the front, and two in the back but no isofix. Is this ok? What would you guys recommend for travelling with kids? Do you guys just use seatbelts?

Seatbelts are just as safe as isofix as a long as you install the seatbelt correctly. Isofix is not safer in and of itself.

If it's a conversion you also need to be sure the rear seats (if they convert to a bed) are crash tested.

There are loads of half-arsed conversions out there.

Ah ha, this was my specialist subject for far too long. Having a camper van was great, but finding safely fitting child seats was awful.
Things to look out for are buckle crunch, ours had very long stalks on the seat belt recievers (so they could be folded away for sleeping), this makes them unsafe for some seats. Also the hight of the rear seat= bed it's self. I could just about make an axkid mini kid fit because they have the longest leg of all erf seats , but it did need the wedge between the van seat and the child seat.
I had the baby front in an infant carrier for ages. And the older child in a Joie Stages for some time before that. The Joie partially blocked the sight of the near side wing mirror.....and, consider where you are going to store the bloody things while you're living in the van.
