Roof bags?

I’ve seen these recommended a few times on here and wondered if anyone could recommend a particular brand please?

We have a roofbox that’s about 350L (I think) but it’s a bit too small- we don’t want to spend several hundred pounds on the next size up so we’re thinking a bag might be better.

Thanks!

I have one from amazon, I can't see it now, but I bought it thinking it would be a disappointing experiment and was nicely suprises.

Pros. is huge, and flexible in terms of shape, and rolls up and can be put away when not in use. Cheap, sits tight at high speed, twist the straps before fastening so you don't get resonance and noise.

Cons, the straps feed in through your doors and fasten above your head, so you need to get the right place for them so they're not in the way of your heads, especially if tall. Also if it's raining the water wicks inside through the straps and into your headliner. Getting in on and packing it benefits from a couple of people, is definitely quicker so you're not running round and round the car to adjust both sides but have done it solo and was doable, but just with more swearing.

Thanks, this sounds promising (well apart from the wet heads bit!). I know exactly what you mean about disappointing experiments- especially related to camping equipment!

We bought the aldi one which can secure to roof bars, so no water leaks. We use extra ratchet straps to secure it down, as I don't trust the supplied buckles.

Pros:
More space for less cost compared to a roof box
Easy to put on/take off/store both at home and away
Height is not fixed as it can vary with what you load in it
Cons:
Noisier than a roof box
No heavy items as risking damage to roof
Potential scratches to paint if you're not careful
Constant anxiety wondering whether it's secured properly or not

We got BOYUJK Car Roof Bag from Amazon. Similar it was an experiment before opting for a more expensive roof box and really pleased. Comes with a mat so not worried about scratching the car. Options for how you secure it depending on if you have a roof rack or not and if you don't it clips into the door frame so no worries about heads etc.

We found we got loads more in than we thought and it's really freed up space in the car (that I am trying not to fill with other things!). Didn't find it noisy as long as we were careful to secure the straps from blowing around. Only downside is that our car is high so I can't really reach but that would have been the case with any of them.

Thanks all, I bought the one with the most 4+ star reviews on Prime Day so got about £30 off- fingers crossed. Cheaper than sending one or two children by train to make space!

We have the handirack and bag, have used for over five years. Only downside is that if it rains it sometimes sleeps along the straps and into the car!
