Recommendations for camp sites in Lake District please

We usually go to Cornwall or stay near to home in Dorset. Fancy a change this year and going a little further.
Has anyone camped in the Lake District and could recommend somewhere to stay with two girls ages almost 9 and 6 please?

There's a sweet, but tiny campsite at Buttermere. It looks like it's someone's garden (and might be) but it's very pretty and a little off the tourist trail and there's good walking. People seemed to swim in the lake too.

Sounds lovely. Thankyou. Shall take a look into that one. Anymore? We are open to all types of sites, quiet or even built up ones with onsite entertainment.

try parkcliffe just near windemere. its lovely, with small childrens playarea, games room and bar. very very clean and not full pf chavs.x

There's quite a good one in Hawkshead - can't remember the name - sorry

We've also stayed at the Camping and Caravanning club one in Keswick - just on the edge of Dewent Water - great location. Oh and one in Grizedale Forest - that was lovely too.

The Quiet Site is run by a Mumsnetter (though, thinking of it, I haven't seen any posts by Anteater for ages). I haven't been, but it sounds lovely.

Nice little play area, as at ambleside, which isn't too far away. My DD LOVED Ambleside & Hawkshead play areas, good campsite & play area at Keswick aswell.

Fisherground is amazing

We often stay at Coniston Hall campsite which is busy and large but right by the lake, good for watersports and general pottering by a lake.

We had a great few days at Wasdale Head - not many facilities but no cars on site which we like, and surrounded by streams to paddle in and dam.

We also like one at Glenridding, it might be called Side Farm, it's on the SE edge of Ullswater. Again it's right by the lake.

We've stayed at loads of sites in the Lakes but those are the ones we go back to most.

Troutbeck has a nice campsite. Also has the advantage of not being through Ambleside which can be a nightmare for traffic.
