Anyone Camping at the weekend?

We have planned our first camping trip of the year for this weekend and I am starting to get worried about the weather. Snow is forecast and by the look of it sleet showers would be the best we can expect. Is anyone else planning a trip this weekend and will you still go if the weather is really bad on Friday?

i wouldn't. we camped last whitsun and it was unseasonably cold - but still warmer than this weekend is forecast to be - and it was truly freezing. we enjoyed the daytimes but DREADED the nights. it's really changed my previously very devil-may-care approach to camping.

sod that for a laugh

stay home, warm, dry, telly, food, chocolate - it doesn't get any better on a long weekend in March!

(DH just went to Belgium and Holland for the weekend, in his own little tent - he sort of forgot it is March - he won't be doing that again in a hurry...)

God no! I wouldn't go. I find it cold camping at night in August in this country so wouldn't dream of camping in March. Particularly with young kids like yours.

Brrr! The earliest we have camped in the UK is April (and that was pre-DCs, when you can spend all evening in the local pub until you're too pissed to notice how freezing it is). That was during a warm spell, too! I know hardcore climbers camp all year round but I wouldn't fancy it with kids.

And having just looked at the forecast for the New Forest, I think you would be insane to go camping this weekend. Stay home and dry instead!

Did a couple of easters in a caravan awning, not fun. We stopped going overnight and just turned up at the PIL's caravan for sunday dinner. Awnning are always colder than proper tents though.

We went last July to Cornwall, and it was horrendous, it was cold with gales, constant rain and wind. We will never go cmping in UK unless the weather is at least, lets say OK, otherwise it is like some sort of army training endurance test. DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think you could get sleeping bags which could keep you warm in weather like this, dcs hands will be cold, it will IMPOSSIBLE to keep them warm!! Yuck yuck yuck

I am considering taking my new camper van out for the day, roll some eggs, cup of tea, heat some soup and have a bit of a picnis, but not overnight just yet .

Ok we have given in, we're not going! Don't know what I was thinking really, just a bit over enthusiastic to try out the new tent!

The DC will probably get chicken pox at some point during the next few days as their close friend has it and they have spent every day with her for the past few weeks! So cold + wet+ spots = stay at home and watch Disney films from underneath a duvet on the sofa!
