Sleeping in Zip on room on campervan awning

Has anyone had any problem when booking a uk site when using an awning with a zip on bedroom?
Dd is wanting to take a friend this year, so we would need to get one of these for them both to sleep in but are struggling to find any sites that accept them in this country!

Have you looked into the option of a pup tent?

Ilianor · 03/12/2023 18:33

It's been a while now but I had a giant Khyam awning with an inner tent for sleeping that we used with our campervan, wasn't a problem in any site I was at (though you pay more)

@Ilianor everywhere is so strict, all the sites with lots going on that we want , eg haven, parkdean. I have emailed alot of sites this afternoon to ask them. Thank you.

@ANightingale yes, that's an option, but again there's not many sites with lots going on that allow it, or they want to charge you for two pitches! We went France last year and it was amazing, park where you want, have as many units as you want on one pitch. Thank you.

you just want an electric grass pitch with awning, Haven do those.
you could confirm if there's a max size of awning but otherwise how do they know or care what you do in the awning?

@Ilianor thanks, haven say there are only certain sites that allow sleeping in awnings. On some reviews at one of the parks, can't remember which one now as I have looked at so many people have turned up with camper van and awning with the zip on room and then subsequently charged for two pitches when they are there.

Oh no! That's wouldn't be good. Is it really obvious there is sleeping in the awning?

onebusymum · 04/12/2023 14:05

@Ilianor probably not, the bedroom zips on to the back of the awning, so access is though the awning. Just with taking Dd's friend dont want to end up having to pay extra etc..I'm sure we will find somewhere. I've had a couple of places say that it is OK. Just want to look at what there is to do on site for teens.

I think the reason they don't accept them is the gas vent for many fridges and fires is on the side of the Caravan or underneath so it is not always safe to stay in an awning as fumes can get in so its very dangerous.

We've stayed on many campsites in our motorhome that have said that no one is allowed to sleep in an awning. We have never needed to, as its either 2 or 3 of us and we did not (Until November this year) have an awning.

That said, on the campsites that have said no to sleeping in awnings, it has been obvious to us that other people have been sleeping in awnings, so I get the impression that it's not really policed very much.

We have stayed at three Haven sites, and various CCC sites and the CCC sites seem to be "policed" a bit more than the haven sites are. If you have paid for the right number of people and got the right amount of passes etc, then as long as you don't cause a noise nuisance, or other reason for the wardens to come over, I would be very tempted to chance it.

Thanks for your replies, I sent a photo of the annex of to a few campsites and as long as it is attached to the van they are ok with it as its not technically sleeping in the awning.
We are booked into a campsite in Norfolk.
