Putting all the tents together, is this a thing?

Last year we booked onto a quiet site. Probably about a third of the pitches in use but they put all of the tents together in one corner so although the site as a whole was quiet quiet, it wasn't a quiet experience as you had neighbours all around.

Been to a different campsite this year and the sane thing has happened.

Is there a reason that campsites have started grouping all of the tents together ?

Probably because it's easier to monitor the site if everyone's in the same area, and they'll know what's in use and what's free. If you asked for a pitch away from everyone I'm sure they would allow it.

That's the thing, lady year we did and explained the reasons why and they still put every bloody camper around us. Needless to say, we aren't going back to that one.

I would hate that!

Is it to let the grass recover in unused areas
?

We did think of that but the grass looked ok on both sites. This last holiday we were there for 10 days so the grass recovering couldn't have been the issue as they kept using the same pitches near to us.

Never experienced this. Been camping for years. What do you mean 'putting all the tents together' are they segregating the field by accommodation type

Large camping field both times. All of the tents put together with the rest of the field left empty.

Know it's probably easier for mowing but it's not helpful to be surrounded when you've booked a quietism time if the year and the site is way under capacity.

If they were electric hook up pitches it was possibly so they only had to turn on one area of the field.

We returned to a campsite we knew had a “wild camping” field, by which I mean it was very bumpy and not level, specifically to use it and stay away from the the main site. Neither were split into pitches and the field was closed. We couldn’t find anywhere to pitch that didn’t physically touch a neighbour (we were through hiking so we’d just finished a 14 mile day and it was late). The wild camping field if open is epic but we’d never return as the main campsite is the worst I’ve been to.

PurBal · 17/07/2023 07:49

Anyway, my point is it made no sense to us either because they’re literally losing an entire field of revenue. I wouldn’t go back.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/07/2023 11:41

Is it not so that they can see what space they have available if other people turn up?

As others have said though, could be do with where the EHUs are located and for ease of monitoring etc too.

I suspect it's probably a combination of all of the above.

It's sometimes nicer like this as vans and motorhomes can have exterior lights on all night

multivac · 20/07/2023 19:55

I expect to be able to choose my pitch when I book!

Which would rule out every camp site I've ever been too!

It could also be the part of the field that doesn't flood so badly if rain is due. Furthest from the road if complaints about road noise are common. There could be lots of reasons really.

I’ve only been camping fout times but we picked our pitch every time
