Right we have a vw campervan and until now have used our retro awning, which has no inner tent and is fairly small, dp and i sleep in it and get very cold if we are not wearing a beer blanket.

So have been looking at awnings for vans, most awnings only sleep two, realistically we need ours to sleep 4 as our van sleeps 2 and there are 6 of us. Now there is a superduper khyam awning available which ticks the boxes, however it costs the grand total of £400.

For the same price I could buy a much bigger tent which sleeps all of us and gives us alot more room if we are holidaying for a long period of time. In short i don't know whether to attach and have an awning or use the van more as somewhere to eat and chill and get a bigger tent...am all confused

the link is here for the awning www.fishbrain.biz/acatalog/Khyam_Motordome_Sleeper_NEW_.html

I think get a big tent and use the van for other things than sleeping - an awning will be a pain every time you want to drive the van somewhere. We have one of these and it's great.

connecting and disconnecting can be a pain, and we could use our retro awning for shows. I like that vango, we used to have an Hartford XL which is similar but it got pinched

It's fairly straightforward to put up too, although you wouldn't be wanting to put it up and down every day. We sleep 2 in each pod and there's loads of space.

When we in camping we see lots of people with tents and campers. We are looking at getting a camper but still using the tent.

the advantage of the khyam is that it is quick to put up so if we wanted to tour around then erecting time would be minimal (and arguing time!!!)
Three people with families in our vw club have tents instead of awnings, just not sure if i will regret it!!!

I think get a tent. We have the Outwell Montana, I got it reduced last year and it is mahoosive!
