Hi, we are planning a trip to the Alps so would love to hear about your favourite campsites please! To give you an idea, our perfect campsite would be something like:

  • Good pitches for tents (with electricity, grass not stones, and not too small - we have a BIG tent!)
  • Near a lake/river with swimming (a swimming pool would also be a bonus, but not essential if there is other good swimming nearby. Other water activities such as kayaking also a bonus.)
  • Good walking and cycling/mountain biking nearby (and ideally some other things to do when tired out from those!)
  • Not TOO busy/noisy ideally
  • Views!

The kids are teenagers now, so no need for kids' facilities/entertainment. All suggestions welcome - thank you!

You might be lucky to find one most will be booked. We booked Lac du Bourget near to Annecy so not the Alps.

Huttopia Lac de Serre Poncon

Thank you, I will check out both of those! Though we have found a couple of others as well that look good and do have availability at the moment, so will probably try to decide fairly quickly!

Huttopia is pretty pricy IME, though that was close to Paris rather than in the Alps.

Not been that way for a few years. Le Recontre de Soleil near Bourg de Oisins was good but some pitches were very tight with our Khyam Ridgi-Dome XXL.

We've been to a few others too but right now I'm struggling to recall the details.

Will add them after I've picked the grown up kids' brains!!

Have a look at Praz de Lys Sommand , very pretty and close to Chamonix and Les Gets. Just been here for a few days and went up l'Aiguille du Midi, an amazing experience.

Samoen campsite. By a lake (can't remember if you can swim but you get access to the local outdoor pool for free). The lake area has golf drive range into the lake, paragliding, lovely walks, nice town close by.
We never book and go to France every year and just happen upon whatever. My kids loved samoen (they were early teens then). The big sites with entertainment and websites book to but there are thousands of campsites in France.
