Hmmm. So what do babies sleep in?

Hello! Going camping in France this year, and hopefully lots of week ends in this country. DH and I well used to camping and happy on mats and bags but being a slightly neurotic new mother wondering what DD should sleep in? Gro-bag? or special baby sleeping bag. She is one (next saturday yippee!!)

hi, i took my dc camping for first time last summer when my lo was 16 months, she slept in a sleeping bag with me. suppose it would depend where your lo sleeps at home, she often sleeps in with me so this is normal to us. if your lo is used to sleeping in cot all night you could try travel cot- i know some people on here do that from what i have read on other threads

Fine on a mat in a sleeping bag. Don't buy a baby one - get a good adult one and fold the end under and secure it with a few stitches. Then it can grow with the baby.

Ok, Thanks. I think I'd be scared that she would wriggle down and suffocate and therefore I'd get no sleep!! (neurotic, I know... She does sleep in a cot and comes in with us most mornings. Can you get sleeping bags for babies?

readybeds are from 2y - she'll be 18m by the summer, which is close...

What's a readybed? is it one of those blow up thingys with sides? (the image in my head doesn't come out well in words)!!

Our travel cot wouldn't fit. Don't really want to buy a pop up one when she would grow out of it in no time! another question - should she wear a gro bag in a sleeping bag?

I wouldn't recommend the ready beds if there is any chance it is going to be cold at night - we got our dds childrens sleeping bags which are fab (and warm) and should last them until they are 10 ish.

We just put our ds in our sleeping bag with us , but we have also used travel cot in the past for my little nephew. Depends if room. Would say grobag or any other little sleeping bag fine tho.

I put dd in a couple of fleecy sleepsuits as she was a real wriggler.

fleecy sleepsuits sound good. How do you keep their arms warm if in a gro bag?

My DD was 15-18 months when we camped last summer and I used a footmuff for her as a sleeping bag (something like this. It seemed to fit perfectly. And a friend lent me a travel cot like this which was fab as it's smaller than a normal travel cot so it fit in the room perfectly next to her sister.

A travel cot wouldn't fit in our caravan and I'm a bit wary of sleeping with our new baby on the double bed with us even though it's wide. Anybody found a product or idea for a young baby to sleep in a caravan? Not going to bother with a moses basket with this one as my first wriggled too much and was out of it after two weeks.

Depending on the age of your LO, my friend's went camping with their DD from VERY young age (talking wks old)-they put her into the sleeve of her husbands down jacket! Same as a sleeping bag! When I was talking to the owner of the outdoor shop in Ilkley, he told me not to bother with a sleeping bag until the child is older as they spend too much of their energy warming up a lot of dead space in the sleeping bag, and unless you're rough camping, then you'll have quite a lot of room in the car to take a duvet.

dd is too wriggle to get get comfie in a sleeping bag. when she was 18m she slept in a gro bag on thermarest. on long trips we just take a duvet and a blowup bed.
