There will be five of us in a tent (2 adults 3 kids under 6yrs!)looking for a site that has a shop either onsite or nearby, with family bathrooms, playground etc ...a bit like Clippesby Hall but nearer to home for us (Cheshire)about 3 hour drive ...personal recommendations welcome!! have been trawling thru' websites but the photos all look ancient and well you never know what they are like til you get there!!!!!!

Hi,

In the Lakes have a look at

www.hawkshead-croft.com/index.html

don't let the "Large Games and television room with pool table and games machines" put you off, it's not the type of campsite that's massive. The Keswick ones are good aswell. Coniston Hall Campsite's good, but very stony, and about 20 min walk from Coniston village itself. Bank hols, it's v.busy & v.noisy-not recommended, unless you camp on the outskirts of the site. There is a small shop on site, but not that comprehensive.

My in laws often stayed at Castle Rigg Hall and I have visited to look around, and it seems like a very clean, pleasant site, and is walkable to Keswick as well as having own shop etc.

Alternatively, the camping and caravan club site is right in the centre of Keswick, on the shore of Derwentwater, and 2 mins from the supermarket and town centre shops.

There are plenty of others in the lakes too but can't tell you what they are like.

Might be worth looking at The Wild Rose Campsite in Appleby?

Hi thanks for all the suggestions ...PeterDuck have never actually made it to Clippesby Hall but have friends who swear by it ..just not brave enough to face that long a drive with my lot ..The Quiet Site looks just the job though , think may try and book a few nights there and a weekend at another Lakes one
