we are thinking of camping so we will need to buy tent and, um, what else?

we have nothing (well a couple of elderly sleeping bags)

we need big tent with three bedrooms and - this is important - no lip to climb over (dd1 disabled so no pods to climb through - level access needed) - any good tent suggestions?

also with children what do you do about toilets? (esp as dd1 can't just run off to toilet she walks slowly with frame so will have weed self by time she gets across campsite)

and what do we need to sleep on

please we need a big list for Stupid People Who Know Nothing

Ok..
My list for camping in the South of France goes something like this..
Tent (We've got a big Outdoor Revolution which I love it has a big space at the front)
Poles, pegs, mallet, line, repair kit etc etc
Blow up beds
Pump
Sleeping bags / duvets
Little wardrobes
Stove
Fold up kitchen
Pans, cutlery crockery
lots of big bowls for salad fruit and stuff
at Least 4 of those squashy multi coloured buckets with handles (good for carrying washing, pans, sandy stuff etc)
Table and chairs
Sun Sail
Wind break
Electricity hook up and european adaptor
little fridge (cant be having my wine warm )
Water Carriers
Washing line / pegs
Torches / kids head torches
Gas light
loads of batteries / lighters
Pack of cards
Corkscrew!!!!!!!
Can Opener!!

What have I forgotten ladies?

Option extras;

Those little net tents to go over food.
Extra fleece blankets
Fold up shopping bags
beach mats for the floor
Door mat
collapsable waste bin

Personally I prefer camp beds, rather than airbeds. You can get rid of a multitude of stuff under the beds then!

Oooo
Sweeping brush / dust pan and brush

MaureenMLove · 09/02/2008 18:42

Check! Got them!

12 man tent 3 bedroom. This is at 99p as I write. I alway think the large berth ones are much better value than the 6 berth ones.

my vote goes to inflatable air beds, plus duvets for grown ups rather than sleeping bags- we have a full camping kitchen kit, accumulated over years (camping cheese grater camping garlic press camping wok and VERY IMPORTANT camping coffee pot/cafetiere!!)

Cappuccino · 09/02/2008 18:47

lucycat that looks good but very complicated

do we need engineering degree?

our budget for everything is about £450 - that's how much we spent to stay in a disabled accessible cottage last year, so we reckon if we spend that this year even if we hate camping and end up never going again we won't have lost anything, iyswim

and the best thing I take for the kids is
one of those towelling pull over things (GLTC or white company)
and a pair of crocs

Cappuccino · 09/02/2008 18:48

99p?

we're not serious surely

So where do you want to go Capp? this country?
I thought I was going to HATE camping, we'd always done Mark Warner or the like, but I absolutely loved it! I've found it the easiest, most relaxing holiday we've ever had with the kids.

discoverlife · 09/02/2008 18:51

Click and see, NO RESERVE, 4 hours to go, one bid.

Lucycat · 09/02/2008 18:52

nah - w3 bought a very similar one - on the recommendation of martianbishop - and the first time we put it up it took 45 minutes, we got it down to about 20.

Needless to say we now have a beast of a tent, but it still only takes 30 minutes to do the basics
she's on my profile!

discoverlife · 09/02/2008 19:27

C'mon, own up, who's bidding?

MaureenMLove · 10/02/2008 00:00

It went for £70 if you're interested.

discoverlife · 10/02/2008 09:53

Did you get it, if not the same company will have another one up in a day or two.

Cappuccino · 10/02/2008 19:55

no I didn't I could never make a decision that quickly

where do I find out about tent sales? are they just around?

like the idea of going and looking at stuff and sniffing it

Cappuccino, have a look at this site. The 'events' section is listing some camping exhibitions at the moment. Also it's great for getting advice on different kinds of tents and reviews on campsites.
Also, we have a dome with a sig (Vango Diablo) and it does have a lip in the doorway. I'm the one who always trips over it!
My tip would be, if you are having airbeds, buy some cheapy fleece throws to put underneath them. It makes all the difference on a cold night.
