We've had many camps with tents and now with our caravan and have almost always used an EHU.
We want to try using the caravan without EHU on a quiet site, ideally near the coast and /or good walking nearby.
Any recommendations? We're pretty central so happy to travel to consider sites in England or Wales.

With or without children?

Rainmakerof69 · 21/08/2022 14:16

With teenagers, they are good walkers . We are still tied to school holidays though.

One of my favourite sites is Mount Folly Farm. The view is very special. It’s quite a basic campsite and doesn’t allow music or speakers at all.
Pitt Farm in Devon has big spacious pitches and they don’t let the site get too overcrowded. It’s in a really good location if you want to do lots of walking.

@Fivemoreminutes1 thank you for your suggestions. I can only see luxury cottages for Pitt Farm in Devon. Mount Folly Farm looks promising.

St Winnow near Lostwithiel. Cornwall An orchard,no electricity, cold tap and basic shower,Porta loos.By the river, lovely walks and a cafe in a caravan run by the farm.Peaceful.Usually allow camp fires.Very laid back.Used by a lot of local families. Also Magor farm some hook ups but great position by Tehidy Woods again with a lovely cafe .Goood luck.Best out of season.

Rainmakerof69 · 22/08/2022 13:54

@Fivemoreminutes1 Thank you, that looks perfect.
@Ragruggers I can't see if St Winnow takes caravans but Magor Farm looks great.
I wish we could go out of season to these places but we won't be able to for a few years yet.

Are you a member of the Camping and Caravanning club? If so then look at the Out & About app (or pages in the monthly magazine) for the Temporary Holiday Sites. Some are attached to full facility sites that you can use, others are just fields, all have water and Elsan disposal. We are hooked on these now as soo cheap.
We are spending £11/night this b/holiday weekend right on the Dorset Coast at Burton Bradstock, walkable along the beach to West Bay. It’s beautiful.
Weekend before last we had an amazing field with great views on the Gower. Also recently been to the Pembrokeshire coast, and planning a September week on the Cornish coast. It’s worth the membership for the money you save on these sites.

@Milliways Thank you, we were thinking of joining the C&C club or the Caravan and Motorhome club. Those sites sound promising, are they like the certified location sites on the Caravan and Motorhome club?

The certified locations only allow 5 vans, and are lovely, but the Temp Holiday sites and rallies are larger, often fields next to /part of certified or other sites. The 6m rule is strictly enforced, often have a bigger space, so never feels crowded.
Here is our view from a THS 10 days ago, full use of loos and showers if wanted, walkable to the beach, £14/night.

This is where we are returning to this weekend, literally 1 field away from the beach, runs for the whole of August at £11/night, no booking needed.

I don't think Wild With Consent allows caravans, but if they do then they're the sort of thing it sounds like you're looking for.

We almost never take EHU with our motorhome, solar keeps us topped up with the electricity we need and a big LPG tank provides for the rest.

CL/CS are different terms for the same thing. It's also worth looking at the minor clubs, who are also able to certify sites up to 5 pitches. There are more minor clubs than most people realise. There's a list of them here (exemption holders).

@Fivemoreminutes1 Low Farm looks wonderful as does Rhosson Ganol @Beamur .
@DogInATent we're looking at getting solar for the caravan.
