Packing!

She's anyone else hate packing for camping or any sort of holiday? Washing and deciding clothes, toiletries, finding this and that, panic of forgetting something.

I get very stressed out by it. I once didn't go on a weekend break as was too tired to pack.

Nope, not me.
I love it, the planning and sorting is all part of the adventure. I'm going in a city break in November and already mentally packing.

I do a lot of delegation Grin

Im coming up to pack for trip away for about camping

Im going to use packing bags and use a proper supermarket shopping back rather than a suitcase to keep everything in

thinking that i'll pack for 8/9 days with outer layers and pjs, then can wear some items twice - but want a capsule wardrobe for camping

I even brought new pants yesterday so ill have enough for 14 days without worrying about laundry

Write a list of things to pack - then keep it for next time.

I don't enjoy it either. I now have a camping pack list which makes it a lot easier as it takes the thinking out of it (which is the bit I didn't like...trying to remember what to take).

I also now have most of the camping stuff packed in plastic see through boxes with clip on lids. So one already has the mallet, pegs, fairy lights, lanterns, torches etc. Another one contains the cooking/kitchen stuff. So most of it is already pre-packed for the next trip.

For non camping holidays, I have a separate pack list which has a sub section depending whether it's a beach/biking/self catering type of holiday! The list means it's also easier to delegate and get everyone to pitch in and help without asking me every 5 seconds what they need to take!

Hate it, it’s very stressful and we always have a row about how much stuff we take. We’ve been camping many years and even though I have a list it’s still a pain.
I start packing ages in advance, all the camping stuff is in one place, it’s all the other stuff for the kids, dog and us.
still love it though !!

Once the camping season starts I have all the gear stored together, ready in boxes and bags. Incl camping toiletries bag.
Then it’s just plan and buy food, pre chill the cooler, pack clothes.

I have nightmares about packing. It's my least favourite thing.

BiddyPop · 01/05/2023 09:12

Sometimes. I have lots of lists and I have a travel washkit that I repack after every trip that I can just grab and go in a hurry if needed (for work or seeing family it's sometimes last minute).

But camping I always forget stuff. And bring things that don't get used.

My next trip is the same day as I have an interview so I can't pack up early but it's cub camp so I can't be too late either for the other leaders sanity. And most of my
Camping gear is in a storage unit a couple of miles away so I would only normally grab it the day before a trip - this one will be on the day.

But I do have a self catering/camping tub in the storage - which has various items I have bemoaned not having over the years. So I grab that and can be relatively covered - a couple of sharp knives and a chopping board (even if tiny), corkscrew, tin opener, matches, wash up liquid and dishwasher tablets, wash up brush and pot scrub, wooden spoon, whisk, couple of bun liners, salt and pepper mills, handful of pegs, a tea towel etc. That has really made a difference to managing life away from home.

We're new to camping and I am finding the organisation of it all very stressful.

I've booked several mini-breaks this summer (and must to justify the cost of all that kit) and I am hoping it gets easier.

The mental load is intense. We are off tomorrow.
