We want somewhere with good weather, decent facilities, don't really know what else we should be looking for.

how old are the kids? toddling or stroppy teens?

cornsilk · 21/01/2008 12:59

will be 7 and 9, very, very noisy, very stroppy 9 year old! Active.

want to dump them in have them entertained by a kids' club?

the Vendee isn't too far and has good beaches and weather - MN recommendations include Le Garangeoire and Chantepie - threads here, here and here

mediterranean coast is hot but v far away

cornsilk · 21/01/2008 17:34

But people I know always come back from camping in France all tanned and blond streaks. Maybe they've been faking it.

sunny and outdoorsy does not = hot!

Paddlechick666 · 21/01/2008 17:58

check out canvas holidays as they do good site reviews.

are you taking your own kit?

we did Vendee 06 and it was nice altho i wish we were closer to a beach. left it late to book tho.

it was a 13 hour trip from Portsmouth to the site and pretty tedious.

weather was fantastic but then it was 39 degrees in the UK that week too!

am now considering a week in Ageles (Languedoc) in May. Just me and dd (2.3) and the site looks fab. Right on the beach and only 17km from Perpignan airport and Ryanair fly there cheaply.

Hoping it will be the usual 20 degrees and 7 hours of sun that the region boasts!

Paddlechick666 · 21/01/2008 17:59

ps: as recommended by another MN-er!

cornsilk · 21/01/2008 20:52

paddlechick - what site are you looking at? I looked up that beach and parts of it are nudist!

Paddlechick666 · 22/01/2008 15:16

cornsilk, erm yes apparently there is a nudist beach around there. my parents told me lol!

the site recommended to me is www.canvasholidays.co.uk/search/showcampsite-overview.asp?id=LR02K

The Vendee is great for kids - St Hillare is lovely. Ile d're an island off La Rochelle is lovely nad ideal for a family holiday.

We also found Bourg D'Oisan lovely and will go back there with the baby. The campsite we stayed on had plenty of facilities and lovely bike rides etc.

It may help! Just booked my camping holiday to Pra'delle Torri. A friend of mine told me about this site www.takeuscamping.com It compares campsite prices amongst the main UK tour operators.

It is only for Italy, France and Spain but give it a go, it saved us searching time.

the Loire valley is lovely, went there last year with our twin girls aged 9, they loved it, stayed at 'chantepie' in saumur, we booked through sites abroad.

Weather was fantastic, had a great tan!!!

Lucycat · 31/01/2008 20:23

ooh ooh pleasemum - we're going there this year! that will make three of us on mn who have been - ivykaty recommends it too.

Is the site as lovely as it appears?

Lucycat · 31/01/2008 20:28

Have you replied to a thread of mine on ukcamping about Chantepie?
