Wildlife on campsites, particularly mammals

I'd love to camp somewhere where you could see wildlife in the late evening. I'm thinking foxes and badgers, maybe kingfishers and otters if by the river.

Has anyone stayed anywhere like this?

We have a small caravan so it would need to be a site that accepts caravans.

Thanks.

We’ve seen badgers and foxes (and some pretty impressive birds of prey) at Treveague. We saw deer both times that we stayed at Forest Glade in Devon and every morning of our 5 night stay at Red Shoot in the New Forest.

I stayed at river dart country park about ten years ago and at about 2am spent a hour watching a family of badgers playing in the carpark. Just stumbled across them, was amazing.

A Zoo?

We were once woken up by an intruder going through our stuff in the outer tent.

I bravely challenged them to find a hedgehog who was after a half eaten tin of sweetcorn.

The Lenches is a very small caravan site in Worcestershire, and they have loads of wildlife on their site - I believe there is an otter, but there are deer, badgers, foxes, rabbits, all sorts of birds there. Gorgeous place

Rottnest Island

Yes, it’s amazing what you can find lurking around the bins on Rottnest.

Ha @PaulaSmith1 we also had a hedgehog intruder on our most recent camping trip, trying to get into an empty crisp tub!
DH shone the torch on it to try and scare it away and the damn thing kept playing dead

New forest?

MrsRhodes · 26/08/2022 21:10

What about deer? We camped in Scotland about a month ago and wild deer ran through the woodland that is at the edge of the camp.

somewhere in the new forest - I can’t remember where. Ponies munching outside in the night.

I agree. www.rottnestisland.com/ would be good. Must do something about that one day.
