Campsite northern Italy

Just planning ahead for next year. I am looking for a campsite in northern Italy, good for kids age 5 and 10. I have never camped outside the UK before, I know or have read and heard about amazing French campsites which is where I originally intended to go, but family is very keen to go to Italy. How do Italian campsite compare to French ones?

Can't help yet, but we are off to Camping Isolino on Lake Magguire next week, so will report back! 😀

Maggiore, that is. And we have a 5yo and a 12yo, so fairly similar.

I think the best in northern Italy are Union Lido and Marina di Venezia. They’re both 5 star but can get quite pricy during peak time. Bella Italia on Lake Garda is a favourite of my extended family. It’s easy to get to and is within walking distance of a lovely town. We’ve been once and the accommodation was basic but we didn’t spend much time indoors as the weather was so lovely.

Another vote for Bella Italia on Lake Garda - we loved the nearby town of Pesciera, the location on the lake for swimming and boat trips, and evening trips to the Gardaland theme park.
Also take a look at Norcenni Girasole near Florence - it's quite big, hilly and picturesque, lots to do and very well located

@Whatafool123 how was Isolino? Thinking of it for this summer! I have 2 x 12 year olds.

Thank you 😊

Sorry, just saw this message! In case you're still looking, we enjoyed it. The pitches were tighter than some French pitches we have been to, but perfectly adequate. The pool, restaurant etc were nice and they had football sessions (as well as other activities) for the kids, which went down well. Being close to the lake was fantastic and made a nice change from the pool. We went paddle boarding.

There was some noise at night from either another campsite or a nightclub, I can't quite remember. Anyway, as a site and local area, I would recommend it. However, I haven't camped anywhere else in Italy so I can't really provide any comparisons.

One thing to remember which I suspect is true of Italy generally, is you have to wear swimming caps in the pool. They sell them onsite and they're not the awful rubber ones we have here, but a flexible lycra type material that is much easier to put on. Still look awful of course 😁

Book early!

I wasn’t able to find a campsite for a big tent in Northern Italy for two weeks this August recently. The ones we wanted were all booked up in late March.

(this was not really a problem. We have an AirBnB booked, and I was idly considering camping instead)
