Lake District or Northumberland Campsite recommendations

The kids would like to go camping this summer. Eldest is starting DoE as one of his GCSE options in September, so I’ve bought all the gear but not sure where would be best to camp.

I’ve been looking around Wasdale but wasn’t sure if it was a bit remote. Obviously we are a bit limited as many places are booked up and we want to go next week.

Any suggestions?

We've been to The Quiet Site a few times which is lovely, would highly recommend.

West Kyloe Farm, Northumberland. Right near Holy Island.

Both near Haltwhistle - which is a great location for all things Roman:

We just spent a week at the camping and caravanning club site in Braithwaite and thought it was great. Well maintained site, lovely village, walkable into Keswick or 10 mins on the bus. I'd go back.

Possibly a bit late for you now but Bays Brown at Chapel Stile is one we use a lot - there’s even a DofE field set aside for them. It’s basic - just plenty of flat fields in a gorgeous basin, with no electrical hook ups. Decent shower and loo block and pot wash, and it’s a tenner a night per person - no bookings, just rock up. Check in is between 2pm and 8pm at the farmhouse kitchen door.
