Which car to tow caravan?

Currently using a Ford transit connect to tow our new caravan.
We're looking at buying a bigger car within the next year so want to buy one that can also be used to tow.
What do you have to tow your vans?

We have a van too, and also a Kia Sorrento from before we bought the van. We appreciate the 7 seats but probably wouldn't buy such a bus again tbh. Do you really need two vehicles to tow?

Sorry that didn't mean to be snarky, more like it is a faff and expensive to have 2 big vehicles for most families.

What size is your caravan? We've had 2 tow cars. Jeep Grand Cherokee and now a Volvo XC90

Both excellent tow cars but expensive to run. We currently have a twin axle 8m caravan and I wouldn't want to tow with anything else, the Volvo copes extremely well!

Friends had a Kia sorrento for their smaller van and found it good.

The xc90 also has a huge boot, I've had a full single divan with trundle bed and mattresses in it with the seat down. I love it so much but I wish it was cheaper to run!

Plus they last forever. Mine is 2011 model and has done 118000 miles

I've been looking at Volvo XC60s. DH likes the XC90.

I've just purchased a car with the intention of towing a caravan a few times a year. It's a Skoda Octavia estate with a teeny 1.6 Diesel engine. I read all the reviews and apparently it's a trooper with solid towing ability. I'm not sure how as it can barely pull itself up a hill so fingers crossed I didn't make a bad decision. I think I will be getting a stage 1 remap.

My point is that if you're not constantly towing, get something that suits your lifestyle but can also pull. I chose this car because it's £0 VED/road tax, basically free to insure and does 60mpg so far.

In my experience, the best car for towing is the biggest and heaviest you can afford to run. Preferably with a conventional automatic gearbox if not an EV.
