So I like camping - but not the bit where I’m supposed to sleep. I always just lie there freezing. Over the years I have tried many many ways of setting up my bed but I still don’t have a solution!

We don’t have much space in the car so can’t take bulky things, but I’ve just bought a duvet style blanket to go on top of my warm sleeping bag. I think the cold comes up from the ground though so do I need something underneath my SIM, and if so, what?

I’ve seen people suggesting yoga mats under a SIM, or foil backed picnic blankets. Do they really work? Or, an extra sleeping bag to lie on? And if I can take only one of those three things - yoga mat, picnic blanket or extra sleeping bag - then which one should I take?

This hot water bottle is brilliant. It's the cover that makes the difference, it's still warm in the morning.p

I used to wear a long North face puffa coat and it was just like wearing a duvet. And definitely a warm beany het.

WOW , I love camping too, winter really cold here. Maybe a portable rechargeable hand warmer can help you with that.

here is I ever ordered for your reference.

Yoga mat. Also buy one of those furry £10 ish blankets. Roll yourself up in it before getting into sleeping bag. It's not weight, it's furriness you're after. Wear thick socks and a hat. Should be fine. If you caull a lot then get a good down sleeping bag is great.

The biggest thing really is your sleeping bag.

Most sleeping bags are not warm enough. You need a 3 or even a 4 season sleeping bag. Getting a new bag can be the biggest difference between cold and not cold.

Hot water bottle! It's literally it's purpose. I went camping with some friends and after the first night of freezing I suggested they try it and they could not beleive what they'd been missing! I pop mine in a bit before bed so it's warm when I get in. It'll often still be warm by morning!

The only time a hot water bottle has sprung a leak on me was when I was camping, and that was miserable.

I think the best answer is a hot new lover!

Or just wait for the peri menopause and embrace your hot flushes

In the short term, an insulating mat and some sort of head covering

Haven't read the full thread, but we used to put down a layer of that foil covered bubble wrap thats meant to go down the back of radiators for reflecting heat back into the room under our mats.

It’s about lots of layers instead of thick layers. I love fleece blankets and plenty thin pyjamas layered.

He's picnic blankets do work. DD won't go campaign without her's now. She's always liked being warm at night Smile
