Campervan with a 1 year old - IS IT SAFE?

We are considering a campervan holiday and have a one year old. We are not sure about the sleeping arrnagements and how to make the little one secure. We have asked the rental companies and they have offered us a net for the bed above the cab but that sounds a bit dodgy to us . We think a travel cot may fit down the aisle but has anyone done it and have any suggestions - thanks!!

We often go away in a campervan my dd who is now 9 - last holidays she fell out of the overhead cabin. So no it is not safe!! My dd did not have any injuries but she was asleep and was 9 - bit like falling out of bed.

When she was little we put a cot matteress down inbetween the back to seats and that way she couldn't fall anywhere, as she was on the floor but the matteress was wedged between the tow boards of the back two seats.

I would very much doubt a travel cot would fit in a camper van.

www.motorholme.co.uk/motorhomes/south6.htm Where the tables are - take out the table and put in a cot matteress - if there is a gap you will need to plug the gap with rolled up towels or blankets.

Hope this makes sense.

Also remember you need to pack everything up to drivve off, shopping is ok as long as you are prepared to walk or cycle with lo. Some places have bars preventing you from getting the camper van into the car park.

Where are you thinking of going?

Thanks for that advice. We are going to New Zealand and unfortunately could only get a 4 birth. We have borrowed a samsonite pop up cot which is only 61cm wide so it may fit where the table is. I bought a T-Safe sleep off the internet which is designed to fit around a single bed but I'm sure he'll wriggle and end up pulling the whole mattress off!
