Campsites without toilets…what do you do?

I’m looking at some “campsites” which are basically farmers’ fields with no facilities.

What do you do for a toilet in such situations? Most advice I seem to see about camping toilets seem to be people using it as an emergency night time option that they then empty down a toilet.

How do you manage if there are no toilets? Or do we just admit defeat and find a campsite with toilets!

Find a campsite with toilets!

RevolutionRadio · 25/06/2021 20:59

I wouldn't book it

Ducksurprise · 25/06/2021 21:00

Find a campsite with toilets or but a toilet tent and chemical loo. The campsite do not expect you to act like bears.

OverTheRubicon · 25/06/2021 21:01

Even if it's fields, they should have some facilities if they're renting more than a few pitches very occasionally. Lots are hiring out those festival type toilets for this summer.

Are you sure there's nothing? If so, then yes, go for another.

Workinghardeveryday · 25/06/2021 21:01

Not toilet - not way!!

MaMelon · 25/06/2021 21:01

FGS woman - find one with toilets! The farmer is having a huge laugh at your expense and filling his/her coffers in the process Grin

Playdoughcaterpillar · 25/06/2021 21:01

Dig a hole?

BunnyRuddington · 25/06/2021 21:03

I’d find somewhere else. Teen DD has difficulty if the toilet block doesn’t have underfloor heating and isn’t cleaned constantly...

SpeckledyHen · 25/06/2021 21:04

Why would you even think of going there!?

SunSeaSurfGin · 25/06/2021 21:11

Depends for how long

One night because you're going to a wedding a porta loo situation wouldn't bother me

1 week for an annual summer holiday. Not a chance in hell.

museumum · 25/06/2021 21:14

You bring something like this and it’s own toilet tent. It sort of flushes, but it won’t last more than a weekend.

I think it’s a bloody cheek to advertise a campsite without toilets!

I’d put up with portaloo but how on earth can they charge for camping with no toilets at all? Nope from me.

museumum · 25/06/2021 21:18

I think mostly these sites are designed for caravans and motor homes with their own toilets.

No we’re talking very basic tent-only sites. There seem to be a lot about this year, probably farmers taking advantage of the demand for uk holidays.

I’m happy with roughing it, I literally just don’t know how a camping loo set up works if you can’t empty it.

We’d definitely only be doing a couple of nights.

It doesn’t. It can’t. Even a camper / caravan needs an elsan point to empty waste. A field without a loo is wild camping and therefore should be v short term
And free.

DogInATent · 25/06/2021 21:36

Portable loo and a toilet tent.

We have a motorhome, but we noticed when we were away a few weekends ago that almost every tent on the site had a toilet tent. This was despite the site having a toilet block.

But if the site has zero facilities, you're going to end up taking it home with you to empty into your sewer at home. Not a pleasant job, but not as unpleasant as you're imagining.

There does seem to be a boom in these back-to-basics tent-only sites. It's frustrating with a small motorhome as these are exactly the type of sites we'd enjoy and we're fully self-contained for 3-4 days between service stops.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 25/06/2021 21:38

Why would you got a campsite with no bogs? Confused

FeatheredHope · 25/06/2021 21:39

Fuck that. Seriously why would you even contemplate it?

woodhill · 25/06/2021 21:43

Do you not want a shower or washing facilities?

travailtotravel · 25/06/2021 21:49

The min standard is a loo emptying point and a cold water tap, I think. We go for a week and require facilities!

DogsSausages · 25/06/2021 21:50

Why would you want to stay there. There are plenty of places that have toilets and showers. The landowner shouldnt charge rent.

Summerfun54321 · 25/06/2021 21:50

Wild camping in the wilderness is great. Digging a hole to do a poo or weeing anywhere is fine because you’re alone in the middle of nowhere and you can do your business far away from where you pitch your tent. Camping in a field with loads of other people and no toilets sounds absolutely disgusting by comparison.

Hardchoices · 25/06/2021 21:51

Is there even running water??

Ranunculaceae · 25/06/2021 21:52

You buy one of these if you really want to camp somewhere without facilities, mine is nearly 20 years old.
