Hi fancy camping next summer with DS (will be 18months) and DH and family. Fancied eurocamp or similar with pre erected tents but looking at the sites they're a bit 'holiday park' for our stage. Wanted something more low key with pool (not waterpark!) or maybe lakes nearby to swim in. Basically want to drink red wine and eat cheese whilst DS toddles with cousins Any suggestions? On a budget of course! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for these tips Custardo and Crunchie: I was thinking to do the whole thing by train, rather than ferry, but haven't investigated costs as yet: have a romantic idea of trains across Europe, going to Spain too, but might be too much with a little one. Crunchie, I think you might be right about April: I looked up a few sites last night and didn't find anything open in April: might have to rethink.

I'm happy to do just tents and accommodation only is fine, and don't think we would use a kid's club, so might check out the ones you mentioned. Thanks.

camping bel in the Vendee is a nice quiet site with a pool and near to the beach and a small town, all walking distance. We took dd when she was just 2 and have been going back ever since. Booked it yesterday for our 4th time.

We've been all over the place and the Loire is our favourite.

Le Château des Marais, Chambord is a nice site, not too busy in low season and lots of places around and about to potter around, Chateaux to visit. It does have slides and lots of pools but they're not huge and it wasn't that busy when we went during Whit half term.

La Ravoire, Annecy is a really quiet site and then views are spectacular. We had mountains surrounding us. Again we went in May and it was really, really quiet.

we were in the Loire last year and went to the Chateau de marais, they were doing up the pool and now have a lazy river. I said to my dh I would love to buy the house on this site - its lovely.

We also went to Pierrefitte, has its own beach and a lovely bar. Children 3 & 5 loved it here, as did we.

Hope this thread keeps going as we are interested in going to the French Alpes and would love recommendations
