Dorset (or East Devon) camp site near beach

I'm trying to find a group friendly camp site in Dorset or East Devon for a family holiday in August (restrictions allowing).

Ideally we'd be able to walk to a beach, but a short drive would be OK (especially if there are other interesting things to do nearby).

I'm trying to avoid anything too expensive (looked at Eweleaze but ruled out due to expense). We'd rather compromise on facilities and be near to a beach than have amazing facilities that we will hardly use!

Please give me your tried and tested recommendations!

Knoll farm campsite near Wareham is a gorgeous campsite but not walkable to the sea.

Sandy Bay in Exmouth has its own beach, caravan and chalets.

Knoll farm looks lovely!

Sandy Bay seems to have potential, but I couldn't find camping, just caravan sites, unless I'm missing something? @DogsSausages

Thank you both! Smile

This is a little further along in Cornwall - but we have stayed here and can recommend - was a few years ago! maenporth

Ladram Bay is fabulous. Highly recommend. Private beach. The pitches are a bit small, but sea views and spotless facilities

West Fleet Farm takes groups with prior arrangement.

Swallows rest in Weymouth or Highlands End in Eype.

My friends (big group) have been to mother ivy’s bay in Cornwall - I know it’s not in your preferred area but it has its own amazing beach!

Toms farm? Or Acton something Langton Matravers..both look good..sites near excellent pub and good walks....
Woodyhyde short drive to Swanage, Downshay looks good but again drive/steam train to the beach...can get very booked up

Laura Bay is my absolutely favourite place.

Forgetmenot82 · 11/05/2021 09:42

Sorry Ladram Bay! Not Laura

You have probably found somewhere by now, but Hook Farm in Uplyme is very nice. You can walk to Lyme Regis from there, along the river path.

Ladram Bay

Another vote for Highlands End in Eype. We’ve just got back from five days there and were very impressed by the facilities.

YanTanTethera123 · 21/08/2021 08:03

There’s a campsite in Studland that’s a short walk to the beach.

Golden Cap at Seatown

Highlands End is a great campsite, we've been twice, but won't go back again unless it's in a caravan. It's so exposed on the cliff, the wind gusts are extreme and it just ruins the holiday - it destroyed our awning last time!
