We've just returned from 3 night away and whilst it was mostly great we've realised that since last year we have outgrown our tent. Our children (1q and 8) now have camp beds/bed bases and we have a new family member--a 27kg dog who takes up the space of a person.
We have a Coleman pinto mountain 5plus which I love, especially the blackout bedrooms. But little sleep was achieved with bickering children and lollaping dog. We were also lucky with the weather as we would have struggled to all sit inside comfortably.
Were going away twice more in the holidays and I'm trying to work out how to get more space. Obviously we could get a new (or second hand) tent, and if so what size? I'd like to go polycotton ideally, but assuming we'd need an 8 berth?
Or we could take a dome tent which we have and split up the sleeping, but is 8 and 11 too young to sleep in tent on their own? We could put the dog in with them who would bark if anyone even touched the zip. Assume that's more money on most sites (we do smallish, quiet sites generally.)
I've always wanted a bell tent, but not sure that would work, all in the same space. My 8 yr old has ASD and benefits from having a separate space to disappear to if needed.
Any suggestions wise campers?
