Saint Jean De Mont camping holiday

Hiya,
We are a family of 5 with a 7,5 and 3 year old.

Booked camping at Saint Jean de mont for August, we've been camping before to France but never this area, could anyone send me recommendations of places to visit please. Don't mind it being further out as we have our car with us.

Thanks in advance 😊

Went there years ago when the kids were little and had a great time but can’t really remember any specific places we visited. They spent every day in the pool. Have a lovely time

We have friends who live in Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, which is a really lovely little town. The harbour side is a lively place with good restaurants, bars and cafes and there are endless pleasant walks, not only along the harbour front but also back along the river or around from the harbour via the point de la Garenne to the grand Plage, then returning via le Sabliar on either side of the canal. It has a busy little shopping street and a carousel during the summer months.
Atlantic Toboggan and Feeling Forest and good for kids, both at Saint Hilaire de Riez
There’s a good zoo at Les Sables d’Olonne but it’s probably about an hour from Saint Jean. Planete Sauvage might be nearer but we’ve never been there.

Drive out to the island of Noirmoutier. The best route is the causeway from Beauvoir Sur Mur, but you will need to check tide times. At low tide, you can park on the beach and eatch the locals collecting shellfish.

velo rail is fun, especially if you can get the children doing the cycling.

Nantes is about an hour away with the mechanical elephant.

There is a water tower at Apremont that you ride up in a life and get to look over the Vendee (it's quite flat...). There's also a good lake beach here with activities.

Lots of good suggestions

There is loads to do around the Vendee, the beaches are lovely but being on the Atlantic coast are quite windy and you need to be careful of strong currents.
Sables D’ollone zoo, st Giles croix de vie, Talmont son Hilaire castle, Puy du Fou is fab but check the travelling time. Noirmoutier is worth a visit too.
The museum of the Vendee is really interesting too, that part of France really suffered during the revolution.

We had the very best of family holidays in St Jean de Monts when ours were much younger. There's typically loads going on at the campsites so you won't need to be venturing out lots other than to the beach. I imagine you'll spend lots of time in the pool (assuming they're open!) There are a few mini golf places which they would find great fun and there used to be go-carts on St Jean's beach which had been made to look like horses which mine absolutely loved - not sure they'd still be there now mind! Plenty of horseriding opportunties. Bikes that seat the whole family were fun along the seafront. Lake Apremont, where there is also a chateau and boats to hire along the river. Take their bikes if you can too as the majority of the children on the site will have theirs. Have a fab time, I'm feeling rather jealous, the place evokes such fond memories!

For a whole day out it’s well worth a trip to the Puy du Fou, amazing shows if they are able to run them at the moment.

Thank you so much everyone. You've given me some great ideas to research. I'm very excited to be going and can't wait for our holiday 😄 x
