Looks like we can go camping

According to the news today I can start getting my tent ready to go camping from 4th July. Some sites might not have full toilet/shower facilities but I’m sure most will especially in tourist areas. Can’t wait to be able to book. Anyone else as excited as me?

Just booked a week's caravan break and I'm ECSTATIC!!

IsabelleSE19 · 24/06/2020 16:10

Sandman, 'we're shut' was unnecessary and hyperbolic. You could have pointed out the different rules without that, on the off-chance that people don't know that already.

And yes, 'Celtic nations stick together' is pretty exclusionary! I'm English with Irish and Scottish ancestry and I can't stand all that bollocks. I'm out.

Bye

I follow 2 very lovely Welsh campsites on FB, that I have visited in the past and both are hoping to welcome any and all visitors asap, possibly after the 13th July which I think is when their regulations might be reconsidered. Whilst they have maintained a professionalism to their posts, there is a subtle undertone that they would like to welcome their visitors from the 4th too.

Tangchi · 24/06/2020 16:59

Sandman I am welsh and you do not speak for me or my extended family. Besides if wales is shut for the summer you might wish to let the holiday sites know who are advertising they are open from July 13th. They obviously didn’t get your memo

We have bought toilet and toilet tent ready to be self sufficient, even have a 12v shower.

FloatOn · 25/06/2020 12:42

Oh goodness this thread isn't going the way I expected when I started reading! I'm in northern Ireland and some of our facilities are opening in July as long as they can adhere to the social distancing and cleaning routines.

So I've just booked our first family camping trip! I bought a tent before lockdown and its only be used in the garden, I cant wait!!! Also is there anything unusual but necessary that I need to bring that I might have forgotten!?

Coffeeandbeans · 25/06/2020 13:03

I bought a new tent during lockdown (it gives me such pleasure😂). So I’m all ready to take a trip to a new area. I’m sure the tourist areas are use to the summer crowds and for some business it will be essential income to get them through the winter so I don’t feel guilty travelling.

Essential items - extension lead for the many items that need charging;
Flip flops for showers.
Bag to carry shower stuff, towel and clothes. Helps keeps clothed dry of the showers are small.

Thanks @coffeeandbeans. I still haven't managed to get dh and I a SIM to sleep on, I had hoped the shops would be open for a try, but got the kids some cheapo ones.
I also need some sort of portable BBQ, was eyeing one up but the price keeps going up everytime I have money!

We love camping but haven’t got a toilet or toilet tent. How does it work? Empty daily or when leaving site?

mogtheexcellent · 25/06/2020 13:17

Had confirmation from camping site we use that the communal toilets and showers are going to be closed. They have three shower rooms which will be open for max 2 people in same family at a time. They want caravans to use their own facilities.

Fortunately we are only camping because I dobt want to stay at the in laws house which is cramped and too noisy for me. The campsite we use is mostly caravans.

It's annoying but not as annoying as being at the in laws.Grin

Coffeeandbeans · 25/06/2020 13:17

A lot of sites are providing toilets and showers.

I think you empty them as needed and certainly before you put it back in the car.

I can't face a toilet tent - our campsite will have its facilities open, so I'm just going to be ultra careful with sanitising my hands and wiping touchpoints before and after use. Hopefully risk should be fairly minimal? I know from our perspective it is extremely unlikely that we will be carrying the virus as we've barely gone out, and virtually never to crowded areas.

You empty it when it gets full - it can depend on how many of you using it how long that will be - you will need chemicals as well as the portapotti and the correct toilet paper.

There should be a chemical disposal point at the campsite - quite often they are in the toilet block and look like a toilet with a hose - they are marked CDP.

Other sites it can be a dedicated area straight into the main sewer, again with hose. It’s not the best job in the world, DH is the nominated toilet emptier.

IpanemaGallina · 25/06/2020 14:08

Thank you for toilet info, we are 5, sometimes 6 if Dniece joins us, so probably daily! I nominate dh with immediate notice Grin

teethiepegs · 25/06/2020 14:21

I've booked two trips so far, just waiting on an answer from a friend before I book a third!

I've booked a tiny camp site in North Wales (near my Mum in Llangollen) for DD1's 14th birthday, six days on the coast near Scarborough in early August with a group of friends as well as us 6.

Third trip will be a week just me, DP and the baby DS1, while the older DDs are on holiday with their Dad. We are looking at the South Coast for that one!

hillbilly · 25/06/2020 19:28

@FloatOn we have vango SIMS and would highly recommend. 10cm for me and dh and 5cm for the kids.

Jumbojem · 26/06/2020 23:45

We've just booked a week in a tiny campsite in Wales (6 pitches). Hoping to have a few weekends away as well. We usually head to the continent but bought a camper van just before lockdown. Bought a porta potti now too so happy to rough camp, or park in relations drives in Devon and Dorset.

FloatOn · 30/06/2020 12:29

@hillbilly I have just bought the Vango SIMS for DH and I, I bought the kids cheaper versions. I had hoped to go to decathlon to try them out but called past on Sunday and there was nearly 100 people in the queue waiting to get in!

ImperfectTents · 30/06/2020 15:19

I'm camping .... in Scotland in August. Can't wait

Coffeeandbeans · 30/06/2020 16:31

I’m now booked for a week in Dorset - cannot wait. A different view (ie not my window) will be lovely.
