We camped there this summer and camped here Antioche. It doesn't have a pool but is very close to the beach and nice and small. Lots of families and the play areas are good. Our children spent their time whizzing about on bikes with their 'gang'. Lots of people were on repeat visits and we may well go back again next summer. We couldn't work out what the star rating for the sites meant as some with less stars had more facilites - depends what you want really. This one was a bit further along the coast and had loads more things to do but was bigger and busier. I wouldn't have felt so happy letting the boys (7,5 and 2) just go off, but then there was entertainment for the kids.
We had a great time inspite of the weather!

We went with Eurocamp a few years ago - think the site was called 'interlude' - had a fantastic time. Pretty quiet site comparatively, by the sea.

Been to a lovely one on Ile de L'oron. It's in a place called La Gauterelle and is right on the beach. It has no pool, shop etc though and there are few English people there. Depends what you want really. Also went to a nice one in the Gironde this year.

I've stayed in Ile de Rhe but not camped, very nice but quite expensive it is after all a place to be seen.
Have you ever been to Ile de Noirmoutier?? in northern vendee - can definately recommend it, castle, town square with shops, restaurants, a small aquarium and a lovely, lovely beach where you can hire canoes. Plus it's not as far to travel but is close to other coastal resorts. HTH

The 'interlude' one that kookaburra stayed at was the busy one along from us. I think it has grown a lot in the last few years from talking to people who had stayed there previously and were now at Antioche.

Hi we went to La Brande on the Ile d'Oleron this summer and it was fab! Would definitely recommend it. Campsite good, fantastic pool with slide, big pitches with shades, nice beaches nearby...Great!

sorry to interupt, but can you give me an idea on how much the ferry costs to go from dover to calais, or from newhaven to dieppe next spring/summer?

theclangers · 16/10/2007 22:17

Ferry costs... It depends what time of year you go, who you book with, what vehicle you have, is you have a roof rack/bicycles, etc...
I went last 2 weeks of August in a bog standard vehicle and it cost us about £100.

theclangers · 16/10/2007 22:17

Sorry, forgot to mention that was from Dover to Calais.
