Two families camping together

We're due to camp with friends in August- two families of four. Two tents and a shepherds hut. (Communal toilets/ showers etc). I can't quite work out whether it's a daft idea or not.
There's loads of foreseeable problems especially if it rains meaning we cluster together indoors, but also it feels relatively low risk - anyone else in this situation?

I would go for it...if the infection rate hasn't lower by then we knackered. Many occupations don't allow for social distancing anyway.

Currently one person in 1000 is infected and will be a lot lower the

Are the communal facilities just shared between the two families, or with a campsite?

cptartapp · 08/06/2020 07:56

We've booked two short camping hols with another family, two families of four in August. On risk v benefit for us it's a no brainer. Had booked Greece but that won't be happening.
After working in the NHS throughout all this I refuse to not get away. Our DC are teens and our tent is massive which helps. Able to rebook for free within 18 months if cancelled due to Covid.

Iloveappleproducts · 08/06/2020 08:04

It's very doubtful that any communal facilities will be opening on Uk campsites for the foreseeable future. The major sites are hoping to open from July 4th but with facilities closed. I've read that this will mean that unless people have their own toilets/ showers they will not be allowed to camp. This, sadly will preclude tent owners

Dozer · 08/06/2020 08:05

Yes, the loos/showers are the main issue.

LadyPenelope68 · 08/06/2020 08:07

Most campsites wont be open to tents anyway by August because of the communal bathroom situation, so unlikely you'll be going anyway. They'll open to caravans who have their own toilet/shower facilities, but that's it.

innitlush · 08/06/2020 08:07

We're booked on 3 sites between July and September. All 3 have said their will be no communal showers/toilets as things stand. This is ok for us as we now have a tourer so can shower, but had we still been using our tent, we wouldn't have been able to go

cptartapp · 08/06/2020 08:16

OP look on the Cool Camping website.

taptonaria27 · 08/06/2020 08:56

Thanks all, I did read on here that some people have had their booking cancelled already but the site we have booked is in England and hoping to open.
Guess I really just have to wait and see what Boris says plus make my own judgement on how safe it feels re infection rates

If sites don't open the showers then very few will go even with caravans. It isn't what we are reading from the caravan club. Why won't they have showers etc when even by then, pubs and restaurants (and their toilets) will be open

MrsTannyFickler · 09/06/2020 06:30

Its too early to second guess what will be happenning in August but like others have said its the campsite washing and toilet facilities that going to be the stumbling block.

Espoleta · 09/06/2020 06:34

I got an email yesterday from someone we’ve booked with who’s sent me this:

Toilet & Shower Facilities - these will be available for use. These will be cleaned 4 times a day by our staff. Please ensure you bring with you the below and wipe the facilities prior and post use:

Hand Sanitiser
Toilet Roll
Antibacterial Spray
Hand Soap

Espoleta · 09/06/2020 06:35

And this is from 4th of July

NoHardSell · 09/06/2020 06:46

Why would toilet blocks be closed?
They won't be at workplaces
They won't be in shopping centres
They won't be in pubs (if they reopen)
Is it the showers? What's different?

innitlush · 09/06/2020 08:00

I received this from Haven. They haven't confirmed as yet whether or not the toilets will be open, and we are due to go on the 22nd August.

I don't know if you'll see this OP but I've just received an email about my booking from July 4th at a campsite and copied it below

*We are delighted to announce that we're planning to open most of our Club Sites as normal, with facility blocks available.

Your booking(s) at xxxxxxx is one of these campsites, we'll confirm the opening date as soon as we can.*

LoafingLiz · 10/06/2020 15:48

@Espoleta Is this a campsite in Wales? We were hoping to go in July.

Espoleta · 10/06/2020 17:06

No It’s in England
