OMG I'm going today - am terrified...

Today's the day I take the boys camping on my own for the first time...

Am borrowing a friend's tent - have kind of put it up once and I'm really, really nervous.

At least the weather's good!

Be reassured, Dot, that even if you hate it, your boys will love it. And when you get home they will be grubbier than they have ever been in their lives!

If you get stuck putting the tent up, ask someone friendly looking on the campsite to give you a hand - I find camping people are generally helpful.

Have you got extra blankets and hot water bottles? We went last weekend and it was cold at night.

2 ds's aged 5 and 3. I'm really nervous about everything - getting the tent up, cooking tea tonight, keeping them happy until Sunday. Why did I think it was a good idea???

Honestly, you don't need to keep them happy - they will just run about a lot. Take a ball and some toys. And something to do in the tent if it rains. And a book for you.

OK. Calm... They will love - that's why I'm doing it.

Am going to take sleeping bags, duvets and blankets so hopefully we'll be OK.

It's really daft but I'm due to leave work in 5 minutes to get home to pack and I'm shaking!

Oh it's going to be lovely - don't worry. My boys love camping - they get to just be kids, run around, get mucky, eat a lot. Have fun!

biscuits and chocolate cure most ills I find when camping. How big is your tent? (My disgusting top tip is a little lidded bucket (like the ones maltesers come in) so If they need a wee in the middle of the night, you don't have to shuffle off accros 3 fields to the loo block...) And easy to slip on shoes or sandals.
And a good lamp so you can read when they have gone to sleep.

Yes, have sent dp on a mission today to buy a bucket with a lid - of course I've started my period (sorry, TMI), so am stressing about that as well.

Aarrgghh! I don't normally stress this much. Don't want to be a camping failure...!

Marthamoo - she works all day Sunday and at first I was only going to go Saturday/Sunday so it wasn't practical. Then I thought I might as well go today and she's staying at home for a lovely weekend's peace and quiet!!

I'm jealous, we wanted to camp this weekend but too many dull practical things have cropped up to do this weekend.
