Alternatives to Lake Annecy, if any?

I'm trying to choose somewhere to take the caravan this summer and have been recommended Annecy. But DH doesn't want to drive that far (apparently it's 11hrs from Calais when towing). And I'm a bit worried about how busy it'll be traffic-wise around Annecy. But now having seen how beautiful it is, I'm struggling to find anywhere better!

Teen DC want a water park, but a bit more than just slides, such as a lazy river/rapids too. A beautiful setting would be lovely, which kind of discounts the flat Loire. We're not fussed about beaches, so inland is fine. So basically Annecy, but closer to Calais. Grin

Does such a place exist?

Domaine de Chalain is beautiful and might satisfy your DC but it’s only a couple of hours nearer to Calais. Val de Cantobre is another one, but it’s quite far south.

You could try in the Auvergne, although that doesn't have a (very good) lazy river as such, but it does have a lake for canoeing and paddleboarding.

Duinrell has an excellent water park, but is in another country entirely and whilst the Netherlands has many excellent places to visit, I wouldn't say that that part is renown for its scenery.

I have not been to these, but I see Les Alicourts, Fierbois, La Croix de vieux pont mentioned a lot which are nearer to drive to.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have a look at the sites mentioned. I think I'm just a bit worried about driving all that way and the sites being heaving and too busy for DC to use the pool slides anyway. But if we don't go far south enough, the weather might be crap. Decisions decisions.

Camping Les 3 Valles in the Pyrenees. Lovely campsite with lazy river/slides etc and in the Pyrenees so beautiful surroundings. Get the ferry to Santander or Bilbao then it's just a couple of hours drive.

Have a look at camping le lac d’orient near Troyes.
