Tour of the north - is this crazy?

Hi all, I live in the south east of England a d would love to re visit the north as not been in years. I was thinking of doing this next school summer hols with Dd who will be 14 and Ds who will be 11. Any ideas or advice on how good an idea would be much appreciated. We are quite experienced at camping but am not sure about the duration and doing it alone with 2 older children. I was thinking of going to Northumberland and spending about 4 nights there, mostly beach and kids doing a surf lesson, but also visit Holy island a d a castle. Then on to Edinburgh and spending 3 days there visiting the fringe festival - trying to see a few things that we would all be interested in.Then on to the west coast of Scotland for a few days of beach again and maybe doing some.watersports. Then down to Blackpool for a night in a hotel and going to the pleasure beach before heading home again. What do your reckon? How knackered would I be?!

That sounds like a great list.
Have you looked at distances? We drive S London to Northumberland fairly frequently, and it's a trek. And Scotland is a BIG place. If you are comfortable with the distances, it sounds great.
Would you camp it all? Maybe a small flat in Edinburgh?? But it will be crazy expensive at fringe time.

it's about 5 hours from mine to Northumberland. then about 2 or 3 from there to Edinburgh I think. I'd be looking to camp in Edinburgh at somewhere on the edge and then bus in. It's about 3 or 4 hours from there to the west coast - may go south west to around the Oban area as I think going further north starts making the distances a bit unviable.
then its about 5 hours from there to Blackpool.
I have a tendency to over do things on holiday so that is my main concern but think itd be ok with 4 days in each place?

I'm probably biased because I live here, but why not visit the lake district as well ?

Visit Beadnell bay in Northumberland. The most beautiful beach in the world and they do surf lessons. There's a campsite there. Then a few miles up the road is Bamburgh Castle.

I've stayed at the Edinburgh Festival campsite at the airport the last couple of years. Site not great but acceptable. 3 minute drive and you're at a tram stop with free parking and a direct line right into the city centre.
