Toys/Games for Camping

I thought I would create a thread for ideas of toys / games that are good for keeping kids amused on campsites - no tv to rely on! Things that pack down small, don’t need electricity and aren’t going to annoy other campers....

So I know that bubble wands are a no-no due to tent waterproofing. I used to take glow sticks but now I worry about the environmental impact so am not going to do that.

Sports wise, my friend who has a football-mad son takes a ball and a pop-up goal and that seems to keep him amused for hours (unfortunately my son isn’t into football...)

I’ve packed temporary tattoos / glitter tattoos / tattoo pens before and they are good fun (except the older kids can’t do them anywhere visible or they’ll get in trouble at school!)

Paper / pens / colouring books I always pack - younger kids can do colouring and the older kids often like playing games

Dobble

Oops posted too soon!
I was going to say paper games like picture consequences are fun for older kids.

Someone on another thread mentioned a stomp rocket - haven’t tried that one yet.

We always take a few packs of Cards / UNO / Top Trumps (Plop Trumps is fun too!)

Any other suggestions?

Yes Dobble is a good one.

Not much chance of fitting any bikes or scooters on our car I’m afraid along with all the camping gear - we’d have to hire a van!!

Yes we have a bike rack.

Following as doing alot of camping this summer with dd3.5.
I hadn't heard about bubbles and tent waterproofing. What happens?

Ohnononono · 15/06/2019 23:26

Apparently bubble mixture isn’t good for tent waterproofing so other campers may get annoyed if bubbles land on their tent. I only found this out recently too!

UNO

Kubbs is good and ideal for camping - can be quite sociable and adults can play with children.

UNO, Dobble, Top Trumps, Pass the Pigs are all favourites.

In the past I've printed off camping treasure hunts/scavenger hunts. EyeSpy on a campsite.

Swingball is good or badminton rackets and a net if you have room. Nerf guns are also popular.

Thankyou. Will remember not to take bubbles camping from now on.
