Mozzies and French campsites

Looking at booking a campsite in France next to a river or lake but really worried about being bitten to death by mosquitoes. Looking at the Dordogne (on the river and nearby), the Auvergne and the Vendee. Last time we went to the Dordogne (in a chalet) | I couldn't sleep because of the buzzing and fear of being bitten, as well as actually being bitten! But that was a little way away from the river.
Anyone any experience? Will be there in August.

Looking for good weather but no mozzies. Nothing ruins a holiday like mozzie bites......

There is a chain of shops over here called Action (a bit like Wilko in the UK) They sell a lot of anti mosquito stuff. It is cheap and works well. At the moment I am using a big plastic bottle of Citronella air freshener. It has an integral wick so you just open the screw top and pull the wick out a couple of inches. Every insect in the world makes a beeline for me and bites me. This is working really well - smells nice too.
