Who's going camping this weekend

dustyFawkes · 23/07/2007 16:37

Well i have finally got hold of the farm where we are due to go camping this weekend and so far the river has not burst its banks although they said it is very very wet. I was worried that we would not be able to go but so long as the river doesn't breach we are definitely going

Anyone else braving the weather? Not sure I can do 10 days if its wet every day though. I think 5 days will be more than enough, even in our big tent, if the weather doesn't improve.

dustyfawkes we are due to go next thurs, from co durham all the way to weymouth for 10 days {hmm] we have paid £50 deposit but we are seriously considering not bothering and jsut popping up to northumberland instead - colder but drier! I jsut don't want to drive all that way to have a miserable time and also am having an (irrational) panic about getting washed away in the night we are lucky though as both teachers so flexible and we are going to Rome for a week for a wedding later on

Pixel · 23/07/2007 19:54

Dh had to go to great lengths to book a week off from work during the school holidays. After all that we still haven't booked a campsite because we can't decide the best place to go. We are thinking of staying quite close to home in case we get flooded out. Does anyone know how the New Forest is doing at the mo?

FeelingOld · 23/07/2007 19:57

Well we were supposed to be going fri til mon with friends but we have decided not to go after seeing the weather forcasts.
We have camped for 3 weekends already this year and apart from the bank hol monday at the end of may, we have been very lucky with the weather.
I have 2 weeks off in August and we are hoping to do a week then but doesn't look like its going to improve much.
Good luck to all of you who are going, I hope you miss this dreadful weather.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 23/07/2007 23:01

I'm meant to be going on Monday for a week. Have just emailed farm and asked if I can postpone it for a week. Felt a bit cheeky as I'm sure they will be losing business.

dustyFawkes · 24/07/2007 08:54

I've not heard anything on the news about flooding in weymouth inmuckingfuddle. I've got to drive up there tomorrow so i'll ask around and let you know what the locals are saying.

I've not heard anything about floods in the New forest either although i imagine any sites by a river would be a bit dodgy. Ring up the Forestry Commision and ask them. Ive got a number somewhere - I'll see if i can find it.

This is the number for the Ocknell and Longbeech forestry commision sites in Frithim which is in the north of the new Forest 02380 812740. They should be able to tell you what their sites are like plus they should know about the other forestry commision sites too.

Hi,

We are going this weekend. Were camping near Weymouth last weekend back on Sunday and going back to same site Weds. Have left tent up so hope not going to be washed away either.

We went down on Friday in driving rain but by the time we got to site it was fine, bit drizzly but OK. Sat was sunny and rainy in equal measure and Sunday lovely. There is no flooding there as far as I know so you should be OK.

Pixel · 24/07/2007 13:18

Thanks Dustyfawkes, will try that.

inamuckingfuddle · 24/07/2007 16:49

its not so much existing flooding that puts me off as the thought of driving about 400 miles just to get wet - much as I love camping a bit of sunshine every now and then does help anyway, we've checked the latest long term forecast and aug is set to be better, wamer, drier ...we won't make a decision til next week though, jsut in case

FennelpolyjuicedintoMandrake · 24/07/2007 17:02

We've cancelled our plans to camp this weekend, for about the 5th time this "summer". We've only been for one weekend and got rained out totally then, it was utterly miserable. (that was the whitsun weekend)

am not sure what to do now, our plan for all our summer holidays to be camping but it's not working out.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 25/07/2007 15:02

ksmum, which campsite are you going t near Weymouth? I'm booked in at Eweleaze for next week but am thinking about trying to book elsewhere on a different week. thanks.

dustystar · 25/07/2007 15:05

I've just been to weymouth and although its very wet today i couldn't see any flooding and the lady I asked siad everywhere was ok as far as she knew.

sandyballs · 25/07/2007 15:08

This weekend's weather forecast doesn't look too bad - dry Fri and Sat, light rain Sunday. We're going to Honeybridge Farm in Horsham for 3 nights.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 25/07/2007 15:09

Its more the bad weather rather than the flooding that is putting me off. Although I normally drive round the outskirts of Oxford to get to the south west.

dustystar · 25/07/2007 15:12

Well I don't think its going to be sunny exactly but so far it looks as though it will be drier next week.

Lucycat · 25/07/2007 15:58

We're off to Cornwall very early on Sunday morning for 10 days then over to Devon for 9 days - can't wait.

We put Lakey up in a friend's garden yesterday and she's gorgeous - if a little huuuggge not sure if everything will fit in the car yet - may have to leave the dd's at home

happy camping everyone!

dustystar · 25/07/2007 15:59

stop talking about your lakey. i am too jealous for words.

Lucycat · 25/07/2007 16:03

She has tartan cotton curtains -well not curtains as such but flaps that velcro up. and windows that totally open up and a sturdy zip in groundsheet.

oh and did I mention that she is very heavy too

Shsll i take some photos to introduce her to MN while we are away?

dustystar · 25/07/2007 16:08

I hate tartan

Go on then - take some photos

Lucycat · 25/07/2007 16:11

well it's more of a two tone gingham type stuff - Danish tartan

ok will take photos must tidy the tent first.......

Tigana · 25/07/2007 16:15

DH is...but it is at a festival...and he will be rat-arsed...so even if it rains...

dustystar · 25/07/2007 16:16

Boo - I quite like gingham.

Don't talk to me about Danish though. Those meanies at Outwell didn't want us for there Outwell family. we did get a pack of Outwell playing cards though

Lucycat · 25/07/2007 16:29

Outwell playing cards

What do they have on them - pictures of tents with all their different sizes?
