What is your essential kit for one/ two nights away?

Going with DH and 6 yo DS for the odd night/ two away. We have a tent, inflatable mattresses, sleeping bags, tiny gas camping stove and cheap pan set.

I keep looking at inflatable furniture, folding table and chairs, wardrobes, electric hook up unit, and the list goes on and on.

What is the minimum amount of kit that you need to make a weekend away comfortable? What can’t you do without and what is a waste?

Not a lot, bedding, well tent, but nothing more, I always choose places near pubs, and ideally ones with cafes for breakfast!

I always take earplugs - it's not just other campers that make noise, although snoring can be surprisingly loud, but things like camping near farms where cows and sheep can make a real racket, camping near lakes where geese seem to make a really loud noise late at night and very early dawn, heavy rain is very loud bouncing off the tent when you are trying to sleep.
I always take an eyeshade because my tent is quite light coloured and very bright inside as soon as the sun comes up (4am ish at this time of year), an eyeshade enables me to sleep a bit longer.

I've needed the trusty ear plugs in a campsite with a no-noise policy that wasn't enforced (bunch of young lads left in charge) and on a lovely quiet farm where the quad bike was out on the facing hill amidst the loudly-bleating sheep at some early hour.

If you're a light sleeper, they're brilliant.

We also tend to take a large flask to use as a teapot, so you can have a second hot cuppa without having to boil the water up again.
