Help me plan our holiday - recommends for west Scottish coast and Lake District, please!

We’re bell campers but this year we’re hiring a motor home in August in order to be able to get around more. We only have a week. We are in the north midlands and want to go north, spend a night and a day in the lakes somewhere and then continue north and split the rest of our week between two good west coast Scotland beachy sites. Remote is fine but really do want coastal. I’d rather be on a quiet beach site than one with lots of facilities, but I’m never going to complain about a pub (or access to one in walking distance). Little light pollution (we have a telescope!) and peace and quiet. Wildlife. Views. And hookup for the house on wheels. Obviously the further north we go, the further we have to come back, but open to suggestions. We’ve little travelled in this direction so very much open to suggestions. Thank you! Smile

Solway View Holidags is a lovely site.

Sunnyside at Arisaig. The view, the beach - it was my favourite campsite, but they’ve changed their rules on tents so we can’t go now as our tent is too big☹️. You’ll be fine in a campervan though.

Head behind Skiddaw. Or Newlands valley.

I've never been but The Quiet Site in Ullswater always sounded lovely Smile

Years back the owner used to post on here & he was a nice bloke. No idea if it's still his though.

Also have a look at this site on Kintyre, between Campbeltown & Tarbert. Reviews look pretty positive! We've never camped there, but had a wonderful holiday in self catering near Tarbert - the peninsula is quite wild & the beaches are beautiful, & very quiet.

You can cross by ferry via Arran to avoid the looooong drive! Our kids enjoyed that.

Oooh Crabbit I didn’t know there was a site there. We might head up there for a couple of days in the summer, love it up there.

profpoopsnagle · 27/03/2019 21:04

The Quiet site would be a good one as a stopover, in either direction.

Alabasterangel6 · 28/03/2019 16:34

These are fabulous, thank you. I’m going to start plotting a map!

Kielder Water, I know Northumberland isn't the lakes but if you're after seeing stars Kielder is officially the darkest place in Europe! Mind the midgies might be a problem in August 🤪
