Can anyone recommend a tent for 4 -6 people which is very easy to put up for someone who has never been camping before thank you

I'd go with an air tent. You effectively pump up the 'poles' so no faffing with threading them through the tent. Then you only have to peg down the guy ropes. They are a lot more expensive though.

Look on ebay for some bargains.... especially if you might not do it again!

If you dont want to spend airbeam money then I would go with what they call a 'weekend ' tent to start with (we still use ours 10yrs later even though have a better tent for longer stays) - if you cant borrow one...

the vango icarus is a good one and some of the hi-gears are ok - you want a HH of at least 3000mm for the UK..

depends on the age/mix of the group - and length of trip how many berths you go for ..... Some say get extra berths but I wouldn't for a 2ad+2 kids formation etc as the bigger the tent the trickier to put up ..
and you have no privacy in a tent anyway :)

4/5 metre Bell tent. Peg around the circle then put it up like an umbrella then peg to ropes around the circle. Takes one medium woman 8 minutes to erect. Stacks of space inside. Can stand up in there. Foolproof to erect. Barely a ripple in a gale.

We shove ours up within 10 minutes and watch entire families grapple with bendy sticks and tarpaulin for an hour to erect a half human height sweatbox that is oft collapsed by a slight breeze by morn.

This is our third tent. I wouldn't go back to the rustly orange/blue monstrosities if you paid me.

Sorry. Meant 5 to 6 metre bell tent

averythinline · 08/03/2019 11:09

I love a bell tent but having seen fields of collapsed bell tents (because they werent pitched properly ) I wouldnt recommend to a begginner....

I am also a bit jealous as live in a city so no space to dry or store one as they are big and heavy....Envy definitely on my move to the country bucket list though....

if you don't want nylon and happy to spend cash then would recommend Eureka! or Robens BTC - like cotton -but a lot lighter

we have the vango icarus 500 for 3 of us. its a great tent. since we bought it, weve also bought the extension as well....its now massive! air tents are good, but are more bulky packed and weigh more. BUT very easy to put up. "tunnel" style tents are easiest of pole tents or dome ones. have a look on u tube on pitching various makes and models (look at go outdoors website first). thatll give you an idea of can you manage it possibly?

squeefy · 08/03/2019 13:50

when you buy your tent, buy +2 berth. when a tent says sleeps 2 it means squashed side by side, no personal space. hence we have a 5 berth tent for the 3 of us. and think storage/ living room space when it rains!

Vango airbeam 500 XL with electric pump. It takes 10 min to put up using the electric pump and I can even do it on my own (although it is a bit of a faff on your own.)

Airbeam tents are more expensive than poled tents and you might want to find out more abut what you want from a tent, even whether you like camping, before investing that amount of ££.. They are also much heavier and bulkier.

What is your tent for? Festivals, a two week holiday in the South of France, UK weeks and weekends?

www.millets.co.uk/tents-camping/039371-vango-iris-500-family-tent.html Good value 5 person tent - good for festivals, easy to put up.

Bigger, for 6, good value www.millets.co.uk/tents-camping/039365-vango-iris-600-xl-family-tent.html

Visit go outdoors and see the tents up on display, their website shows you how to erect each tent and there's loads of videos on YouTube giving advice. I love watching the camping hacks too so you can pick up lots of fab tips!

We have three tents.a big family poled outwell, a five person vango inflatable and a cheaper smaller outwell for festivals. We stayed with the big outwell and have basically got smaller since. We knew we liked camping though.
