Your tent is on fire - time to put that fire drill into action......

I realise that some people may think that planning an escape strategy for a camping trip is a tad geeky (checks for pens in shirt pocket), but a little fore-thought may well save lives.

And yes I know it's been raining a lot recently, but polyester tents still burn very fast even when the outside is wet!

stupidly..we think of keeping water nearby and take other precautions...but although dh has a knife on him, i rarely do.

We do have a fire blanket and a fire extinguisher in the tent and dh does keep his swiss army type knife in one of the bedroom pockets.

and I never cook in the tent - it's one of those things that I get the heebies about!

It never occurred to me to take a fire extinguisher camping but it would be an excellent idea and easy to do.

I have a rellie who was badly burned in a tent. She and her sister were sleeping in there whilst their parents sat just outside. Although the parents dashed into to get them, before they could all get out, the tent collapsed causing horrific injuries to mum and daughter.

So yes, fire drill and precautions VERY important.

Seen many tents go up, they burn in seconds, so perhaps consider no naked flames or cooking near tent once kids are in bed, doesn't matter if you have extingushers or fire blankets if the tent catches it will o in seconds so no time to get anyone out. (probably says that on that link )

The knife idea makes sense too, keep one on you for quick access or exits.
