Family holiday in a campervan

My parents have offered to lend us their campervan for our summer holiday this year, but I have no idea where to go. It’ll be me, DH, and 2 kids aged 7 and 10. We like bike rides (although one child is much more keen on this than the other, so nothing too long!) and beaches (although I get quite bored of them), and stuff to do (like good museums or parks or farms etc). DH is keen to go somewhere in Europe, possibly the Alps, but I’m a little concerned about long drives and bored children, so maybe stopping somewhere on the way there and back.
Any ideas where to go?
Any tips for Family holidays in a campervan?
How do we find/choose a campsite?
Any advice gratefully received!

If it’s you first time abroad with a campervan, then what about northern France? Normandy is lovely, lots of good sites, lots of nice beaches and masses of history, from Norman times to WW11, castles, cathedrals, museums, lovely old towns and nice seaside resorts.
Weather is usually better than UK, but not as scorching hot as further south. Suggest Alan Rogers campsite book for choice of sites. And no massive long drives from channel ports, or ferries to Caen or Cherbourg, though they are more expensive than Dover/Calais.

Check out the French Aires. These are stopovers for campervans/motorhomes, which provide water, toilet emptying and waste dump. Many in France are free and very handy when you are travelling. Many of the campsites in France are old and tatty. With the increase in camper van use, the sites are not used as much as the Aires.

Having said that, check out Albret Plage Camping, which is south of Bordeaux.

Belgium & Holland are great for camping, using bikes once the camper van is parked up is very easy in these countries especially with children. Take back packs for supermarket shopping

Particularly like Zealand, great beaches, camping nice town.

Dann Hasg has a great adventure park to visit- camping expensive, good beaches
Delft lovely

Lots of different crossings and not to much driving
