If you camp at Great Langdale campsite near Ambleside you will be near three pubs with eating facilities, a mere 5 min walk away; Blea Tarn for very lovely peaceful water fun; a drive to Windermere, Coniston water, etc; and the site has a shop and good bathrooms etc. Shops and restaurants at Ambleside or Coniston.

I love it, but then I lived round the corner for years and am biased!

opened this to suggest Great Langdale, and is already suggested. It is a NT site, and you can't book, that is the only downside.

moopymoo · 10/06/2007 14:05

we are nt members does that help? and we have a ridiculously huge tent will that be an issue?

The Quiet Site has mumsnet connections - I haven't been but it sounds lovely. It gets fully booked in the summer though so give them a ring now if you're interested.

(It is North Lakes though, off J40 of the M6)

don't think being members makes any difference - we are so didn't think anything of it.

Size of tent doen't seem to matter, the pitches are not marked out so you don't have to fit in a certain spot.

We will be going to Langdale at the weekend- we all love it as it is clean and usually quiet. Last summer we went up at least once a month and have recommended it to loads of people. Only downside is it gets busy and as Panda has said you can't book.
