Your best family tent

After a disaster of a summer putting up an old fashioned tent, I'm hoping fellow Mumsnetters had a much quicker experience of putting up tents. Can you recommend your favourite family sized tent. I'm thinking of buying a 3 bed and possibly an air tent for next summer. Thanks.

We have a vango avington 600. 6 man tent. There are three of us and two dogs.

I cant umagine it woukd be comfy for six!

It is however dead easy to put up. 20 minutes and its up. My dp has done it alone in similar time.

It has goid livong space and a covered pirch area

We love our Zempire Aerodome. We have the two bedroom, but they do a three bedroom too.

So well designed and the ventilation options are fantastic in the hot weather.

Camping World have a lot of them.

Outwell Montana is great.

I want the smaller Outwell Rockwell for me and DD.

Have a few tents Blush

Outwell Bear Lake 6 - me, Dh and the dog.
Absolutely lovely, cosy tent. Steady in rough weather and cool when its warm (we camp in France in it). It's polycotton which is miles better than any polyester tent I've got. I love sitting under the canopy with a glass of wine.

Downside is it's very big and heavy but then I'm shocked at how big an air tent pack is when I saw them in Go Outdoors the other day.

I can put the BL up by myself in the garden to dry it, on site the family help me.

We have a Kalahari 10. With porch.
Also a 4 man one from Go Outdoors, forgot the name!!

We have the vango airbeam taiga 600xl, we sleep 4 if us with an extra compartment we use for storage and getting dressed, we love it. At one stage we had 22 people in it eating lunch as the weather took a turn for the worse. It is big when packed down though.

KnotsInMay · 15/09/2018 23:59

What caused the disaster? Did you have a tent with a complicated structure and many different sections and lengths of pole?

If you don’t want the extra weight, expense and bulk of an air beam then any tunnel tent should be Eady enough for two people to put up,

Do you want air beam, steel poles or fibre?
Polyester, Polycotton or Cotton (canvas)
Blue, green or beige / brown (as many tents now are)

FrameyMcFrame · 16/09/2018 04:28

We have the Outwell Montana too.
Best tent I've ever had.
But my friends now have a bell tent and I'm considering getting one
They're so sturdy in a storm and just look gorgeous too.

We have a Vango orava 600XL. A big inside area was important for us. Light and airy, nice out bit that can also be closed simple to put up.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 18/09/2018 12:01

We have a 5m bell tent. Easy to put up and plenty of head room. We love it!

cropcirclesinthefields · 19/09/2018 19:57

We have the Vango Marna 600xl it's the sister version of the Orava, we love it! It has a massive living area and large bedrooms plus a good sized porch area, we chose it for the living room as it's the last thing you want is to vibe crammed into a small tent when it's raining outside.

colouringinpro · 19/09/2018 20:02

We have a Vango Icarus 600 (think it's now called Iris) plus a canopy. It's a great tent. Straightforward to put up, gives you two bedrooms an indoor living space and a very good sheltered outside space under the canopy.

Not far off an Outwell but a bit cheaper

chillpizza · 20/09/2018 16:54

That’s exactly why we got it. I was thinking ahead to wet possible weeks in a tent and not wanting to feel right on top of each other I could live with tiny bedrooms but a huge living space with windows is a must.

cropcirclesinthefields · 21/09/2018 07:58

@chillpizza we had a wet holiday at Easter this year and the lounge was a godsend. I wish we had bought the footprint and carpet at the same time.

chillpizza · 22/09/2018 19:58

Yeah we got it as a bundle the carpet is lovely and soft.
