We stayed at Fisherground campsite in Eskdale for three nights this weekend and it was FAB. About £13 a night for two adults and two children, lots of big sheltered pitches, campfires at every pitch, lots of great climbing and playing areas for the children, a raft pond, no shop but not a disaster, toilets and showers clean, boot drying cupboard, freezer, washers and dryers, owners friendly and helpful, and there's a stop on the Eskdale- Ravenglass steam railway on the campsite. And the area is beautiful and not half as touristy as Windermere and that area. There - plug over .

excellent ! Do you need to book or can you just turn up ?

They don't take bookings but we were advised, when we rang, to call the night before to see whether they had room.

Sounds too good to be true!! Not too familiar with Eskdale although have been to the NT Wasdale campsite many times in my pre-baby days which I believe is not too far away. Is there good walking in Eskdale?

Not that we did much, but there seemed to be lots of public footpaths signed and Wasdale and Wastwater are very close. Sca Fell was 3.5 miles away from Boot on one footpath. Saw lots of walkers.
