EHU? or is it just not proper camping?

We've been camping for a few years now and love it, although we haven't been this year yet. We've never had EHU, but towards the end of last years camping season we noticed that most other people do and most sites provide power.

Are we missing out on something here? What are the pros and cons?

I guess it helps that I don't drink milk and only drink red wine

Don't eat meat when camping either, slightly warm cheddar for sandwhichs is usually ok.

It looks like this, crunchie www.homesteadcaravans.co.uk/cart.cfm/startstring/false/id/950. But it's a Sunngas one and it was £159.

Hey Ladies,

Thanks for all your advice, it sounds like a good idea, I'm never going to want to take a tv or anything like that. We are so used to having no power anyway. I'm also tempted to get a fridge, but again we've always managed with a coolbox. Somehow all the making the best of it is a part of camping.

Does anyone know how much ehu costs? I presume there's a specific type of cable etc.

We just paid £60, but it's a long cable, it has 4 sockets at the end and the thing that stops us blowing ourselves up. And it's all in a nice carrycase too.

We have one, for fridge (is a 3 way so can also use gas or battery if needed),Invaluable in boiling hot weather. We also use it for lights.
DH insisted on buying a TV for camping for those rainswept windy nights - double (what is wrong with drinking wine/beer and chatting eh?)...can be a slippery slope!

TwoToTango · 04/06/2007 19:43

we've got this one

crunchie · 04/06/2007 19:47

we got a good quality one off ebay with 2 lights for about £50, you do need to be careful as there are a lot of dodgy ones out there

We had a EHU pitch for the first time last year, and the camp site lent us the cable for a £20 (returnable) deposit. We'll get our own cable at some stage, but it was nice trying it out. We did take a TV, but that's because it always rains like buggery when we go camping, no matter what time of year it is! We haven't got a fridge, but we ran our electric cool box off of it too.
