Ok, what luxuries do you take camping?

Dh was look at mini colour tv's yesterday but I think thats a major major luxury.

We have a tiny black and white portable in the loft. I mean really tiny 6" screen I think and I've said that will be enough but even that feels excessive.

Are there any must have luxuries for camping?

LYH no TV's we take our portable DVD player for the journey and then IF it is chucking it down or something, they can watch it, they never ask anyway.

Last year we splashed out and bought an electric hook up, lights and a fridge. So we also took my MP3 player and speakers, we use it in the car then in the evenings.

We go in a group, so between us have:
Cafetiere coffee
Hot choc with squirty cream, marshmallows & flakes.
A rotary washing line!
CD or MP3 player

Never take a tv!

My luxury item this year is going to be a radio as I miss music and listening to news and things like weather reports when we're camping. We don't do tv either, it's one of the things I love about going camping. We're talking about getting hook up this year, like crunchie for a light and a fridge, but that'll be it.

LadyTophamHatt · 31/05/2007 22:04

the one thing I said to DH is that we'd only go camping if we had electricity!!

I didn't even concider it to be a luxury

Books, in the hope that I'll have time to read them.

ahundredtimes · 31/05/2007 22:08

Your own pillow - don't know if this counts as a luxury, but sure feels like one when you're camping.
Proper coffee and cafetiere.
Make-up including expensive shower gels.
Good towels.

God, surely these things are BASICS, aren't they? We're clearly very low maintenance campers

Mercy · 31/05/2007 22:17

lol at you lot!

NO tv, dvd player, fridges, electric lights in our tent, thank you very much We go camping precisely to get away from all that tbh. Although we do take a radio.

Completely agree Cristina - books, newspapers etc - some decent wine. A good pillow is important though as 100 says.

ahundredtimes · 31/05/2007 22:29

Do you go for a long time Mercy? Our best so far is TWO nights. Clearly we're not really trying.

twinsetandpearls · 31/05/2007 22:39

we don't really do luxuries although I a, taking some real coffee tomorrow and some gourmet camp food.

Have contemplated taking a radio as my idea of heaven is free morning to listento r4 in peace but somehow taking a radio doesn't seem right.

This time dd and I are taking our watercolours so we can paint!

FeelingOld · 31/05/2007 22:39

I don't do camping without ehu .
We use it for light and electic cool box, do not take tv though, it's the only time you get away from it. Must admit I do use it for my hair straighteners though, I don't like 'camping hair' .
Agree about pillow and I also take my slippers to keep my feet warm as no shoes allowed in out tent.

twinsetandpearls · 31/05/2007 22:41

yes we haave all got slippers this time.

My new luxury is my day tent.

expatinscotland · 31/05/2007 22:46

My candle lantern!

hatwoman · 31/05/2007 22:51

a bottle of '92 krug

Skribble · 31/05/2007 22:56

Really good bed its was more of a folding guest bed for a house than for camping and DD's faom mattress off her bed. Plus as many blankets and rugs as I can get away with squeezing in the van.

Mercy · 31/05/2007 23:01

We can only manage 4 or 5 nights tbh! ds tends to wake up at literally the crack of dawn when we go camping.

ooooh yes, I'd forgotten about slippers, they are a must have.

ahundredtimes · 31/05/2007 23:04

Camping is pretty awful when you're doing it really, but the SPIN afterwards is amazing, and then the summer comes back round and you think, oh that was great, so off you go again and then on the third morning you think, god this is awful let's go home and then the spin starts again and . . . .

I would say booze is an essential really. Only way to cope with the uncomfy beds and constant coughs and farts of an entire field of baked bean eating campers.
